Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

I enjoyed this beer, but not as much as I had expected to--Im a huge fan of Sierra Nevadas stout and I also think their porter is very good. I also love brown ales...but this one I thought was a little generic. There was only a light roastiness, and I thought it was too thick, too sweet, and too heavy...almost syrupy. Not quite as much hop as Id want. I strongly prefer the Porter and Stout from this brewery, and among brown ales, Id rather go with any number of other breweries. Smuttynoses old brown dog has a higher ABV than this yet still has a lighter character. It was the heaviness in this beer that I found off-putting. That said, it was still drinkable and pleasant, just not among my favorite beers.

Half at the rake. Ok drop. Great looking. Carrots and celery but a little too refined. Bland even.

Kwg at the Kings Arms. A clear ruby red brown coloured pour with a lasting beige head. Aroma is subdued, little brown bread, sugars, light floral hop, pollen. . Flavour is composed of Base malts, light toasted malts, faint pine, floral hop, brown sugars. Palate is semi sweet, semi crisp, medium bodied. Easy going brown ale.

It pours brown with a full tan head that does produce some lacing. There are aromas of nuts, roast, a slight bit of smoke, and slight fruit. It has flavors that feature a bit of smoke, nuts, roast, and a bit of plum. It has a fairly light body with a somewhat smooth finish. Overall, a nutty, smoky brew that is complimented by the roast and plums.

A delicious brown ale from Sierra Nevada's Fall sampler box, now I want to find a six pack of this before the season is over! Pours a rich mohagony brown, clear but dense, with a full white foamy head that maintains itself through the pint. Aroma is roasty caramel malt, with a bit of fresh earthy hoppiness, well balanced. Flavor is a wide range of malty notes, ranging from caramel to dry chocolate to mild toasty smokiness, apparently from a touch of smoked malt in the brew. Earthy hops in the finish. Overall quite enjoyable! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a rich black with an off-white head from a bottle. Aroma of rich malts, mostly chocolate, with some faint cola. Flavor similar, rich and malty but not overly sweet, well-balanced. Pretty good beer.

I bought the fall sample pack from Sierra Nevada, and this was the best beer they had. The aroma was of malt and bread. The taste was about the same but with a bit of a char or burnt aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but wasnt one i will go running back to.
