3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle to snifter, shared at home with my wife.
Pours clear deep mahogany. Minimal head, dissipates quickly, leaving first a ring around the edge and then nothing.
Aroma: Toffee, apple, cherry, vanilla. Inviting.
Taste: Red-licorice candy sweet. Minimal hop bitterness.
Palate: Full bodied, moderate carbonation. The sweet-sticky mouth-coating lingers long after the beer is finished.
Overall: Drinking this beer reminds me of what I like about the Silver City Fat Wood Scotch Ale. This is a nice dessert to curl up with on a cold night like tonight.
2016 Christmas ale.
Pours a hazy mahogany with no head and no lacing.
Smell is of apple, cherry, a little caramel, and malt.
Taste is oily, fruit, some spice, some toffee, and malt. Ends thick and somewhat flat. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - APR 23, 2016

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, toffee, and apple. It pours a transparent dark amber with a small off-white head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate caramel and toffee. There is some light fruit in the middle. The finish has light apple and some mild earthy hops. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it’s good...but a tad sweet for my preferences.
The bottle I had was cellar aged for over a year, mellowing out the hope bitterness to let the malt really come through. Lots of fruit flavor in this beer, especially that of cherries and apricots, apples to a lesser extent. The beer pours a deep, rich copper, almost ruby red with an ephemeral, lacey white head that clings to the side of the glass. The aromas o fruit tell no lie, as they are up front in the taste, but slowly yield to the caramel malts and a hint of chocolate. A month finish makes this barley wine style beer one of the best dessert beers. monk191 (2023) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 9, 2016
A decent beer, but a bit one note. Pours a very nice ruby red with little head. Smells of cherry and cider. Taste is similar, like smooth cherry cider, with white wine, some Jolly Rancher, vanilla and a sweet finish. Would be good with seafood. Had in the bottle. WABeerFiend (413) - - NOV 23, 2015
11.2015 edition. Poured from a bomber on 11.22.15. A: Pear, cherries, raisins, anise, caramel, brown sugar, and banana. Wow. Super complex. A: 1/2 finger off-white head that fades to a small ring. Clear dark red body. T: Follows the nose. P: Oily. Slightly astringent on the finish. Light in the mouth. O: The alcohol just isn’t there. This is better than the barrel aged barleywines that I’ve tried.

Clear red with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet with loads of fruit, especially cherry up front. The flavor is candy sweet fruit, like a Ring-Pop. The booze is hot in the middle and the sweet fruit mellows it out again on the finish. The spice slowly ramps up during the glass. Pretty good brew but a little too sweet. nealblind (1965) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - APR 20, 2015
red gold pour. some tan head. Aroma caramel slight playdough breadiness. fruity cherries, alcohol foreground. pretty clean on the light side for 8.5 some yeasty cream. hotstuff (5232) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 14, 2015
Rated on 02-13-2015 (Bottle) The appearance is a small creamy smooth beige head that mostly diminishes, hazy amber body, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is fruity, cherries, sweet, malt, spicy, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet, bready malt, dark fruit, candy sugar, and light toffee. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is light-medium bodied. A most quaffable beer with a good flavor and worth trying. thedm (6306) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 13, 2015
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized dark tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated transparent light red brown colored body and a very good lacing. The nice aroma was candy spicy floral and bready. The sharp accents of a smooth mildly vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a bitter caramel hop aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of mildly acidic roasted malt cloves mild citrus toffee vinous spices floral caramel breads and hops. A wonderful best in class brew. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2015
Bottle. Pours a mostly clear reddish dark amber color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose has a lot of caramel and bread to it. Taste is quite sweet and weirdly fruity, almost bordering on fruitcake. Weird beer...
