Bottled, from Broue Ha Ha, Gatineau. Dark brown, mid sized head. Caramelly nose with milk and lemon. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded, spritzy mouthfeel. Caramel and whipped cream, some milky tartness. Low bitterness in a metallic finish. Unclean.

Pours a dark chestnut, topped by an airy mocha head showing good retention and leaving some spotted lacing. The nose is sweet, earthy and boozy. Burnt caramel, toffee, figs and loads of molasses. The taste is also pretty sweet with those dark fruits and biscuit malts hitting the palate, but there is also a milk chocolate sweetness to the taste that throws it off-key in terms of the style. Some booze definitely makes its way to the palate and you have a medium body with a mild carbonation. Long earthy finish, with that sweetness hanging on pretty tight. Pretty good beer. Cheers!

Bottle, aged about 18 months. Pour is dark mahogany with a quick-fading cap. Smells like a Scotch Ale alright. Burnt sugar, brown sugar, caramel, molasses, toasted bread, lightly earthy/spicy. Sweet, syrupy, kind of slick, with a little bitter kick at the end. This is just what the doctor ordered with the temp hovering around -25. Nice stuff.

Très bonne bière!! Au nez, il y a le chocolat et la torréfaction qui se bousculent un peu. En bouche, j’ai noté la présence de vanille, mélasse cuite et un soupçon d’anis. À garder à porter de main (au frais) en tout temps ;-)

341ml bottle purchased at La Trappe a Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec. Rich mahogany in colour with a long lasting large beige head, excellent lacing. Aroma is of caramel, molasses, quite malty, christmas cake. Flavour is sweet, some burnt caramel, dark fruits, cake, pretty much all malt. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, burnt, very malty. I’d like a little hop bite to this one but is still quite nice. Very malty this one is.

Stoned99 (1674) - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 18, 2014
Bottle from Halles St-Jean. Aroma: chocolate, caramel, raisin App: pitch black with tiny beige head. Taste and palate: medium body, medium to high sweetness, dry sweet finish. Tastes alcohol a lot. Overall: not so well balanced, tastes too much alcohol and way too sweet.
