I love porters and really enjoyed exposing myself to this one. Deep sultry malts with a black smoothness and an archaic earthy flavor. Ample tawny head the color of Eriophorum chamissonis trichomes that lasts to the end, lacing its way down the glass. The aroma is chestnut and dark roasted marshmallow both of which breach into the flavor with zeal. The carbonation is perfect and serves to solidify the palate and overall mouth feel. The hops lend exquisite bitterness moments after the malty tones are swallowed. There is also a slight lactic nature to the mouthfeel. Bottom line, one hell of a porter (though very stout-like) that everyone should expose themselves to as soon as possible. walleye (1099) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - JUN 1, 2004

Very very dark with brown head. Marshmallow, chocolate, coffee, tootsie roll aromas. Rich w/light acidity to cleanse chocolate, toffee, coffee, grounds, and some bitter chocolate and a roasted malt finish. Hairofthedog (419) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 21, 2005
The beer poured an opaque color w/ thin medium brown head and slight lacing. The nose was thin in malty sweetness, roast, a hint of coffee and slight dark fruit. The flavor was full w/ a slight roastiness and hints of coffee, malts and dark fruit. The mouthfeel was well-rounded and full bodied. Rballs01 (282) - Madison, New Jersey, USA - JUN 22, 2005
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2005 This is an excellen porter! At 7.2% alcohol its surprisingly smooth. So nice and roasted. Really warms your insides. Full malt and chocolate flavors coat your mouth. One of my top favorites from the Finlanders.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2008 Slightly fuller (almost oily), more well rounded beer than Fullers but with a malt character not quite as inspired--although it is well endowed with toasty, buttery maple/caramel flavor. The beer’s appearance is dark with a creamy head. Hop flavor is well balanced and unobtrusive. Carbonation is in the aftertaste more than hops.

Pitch black with a half inch tan head. Good lacing up the glass. Beautiful aromatics show lots of cocoa and just a hint of orange. Full bodied with beautiful hoppy bitterness along with more mocha/coffee flavors. This is a beautiful beer. This manages to remain refreshing despite the weight on the body. Highly recommended! Just perfect pint ! One Best Porters/Imperial Stouts ever made! @ Black Door Helsinki, Finland panacea (94) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - JAN 2, 2014
Pitch black with brownish head. Aroma is superb. Roasted malts and sweet alcohol notes. Body is perfect, roasted malts and quite bitter although very drinkable. One of my favourite porters so far.
