From bottle, Kerstbierfestival 2007 in Essen/Belgium. Pours dark brown and with a lacing light brown head. Slight banana fruity and spiced aroma. Flavour is slight acidic/citric with a banana note and fruity overall. Mild malt note beneath. Finish is sweet lingering of the same notes. Nice brew although I’m not sure it was clean.

Bottle 33 cl. Cloudy brown with floaties and a beige head. Lovely oxidized aroma, nuts, overripe fruit, brown sugar and alcohol. Medium body, roasted malts, oxidized woody notes, Sherry and an underlying tartness - a lurking infection? Doesn’t spoil the fun though. No real bitterness. Quite delicious really. 100909

Butterscotch, toffee, dried fruits, yeast notes, sugar and some bitterness. Medium body, pleasant carbonation. A decent one, nothing more. 130504

330ml bottle
6 Massively spicey aroma, liquoricey, and cut mixed peel.
3 Bit of a gusher - lively brown spew out of the bottle, and frothed up like crazy in the glass. After that it was a decent dark brown, and with a persistent beige head. Liveliness made it very hard to pour without a whole ton of crud coming over too, so tons of sinky and floaty bits in one of the two glasses.
7 Big spicey cakey taste, christmassy. Not too sweet, very rich almost burnt aspect to the roast. Barky, and a little earthy. The yeastier glass is much more earthy, and, quite simply, yeastier.
3 Smooth palate, but with sharp carbonation. Without tons of yeast this is a bit transient, though there’s an odd little chocolatey hint to the finish as well as the christmass spices. With tons of yeast, it’s a sloppy yeasty mess. 12 If you don’t make me a beer I can pour into my glass and drink in the state you’d wish, you’re not going to get the rating you’d wish for. Handy hint - if the bottle gushes, don’t pour the bottom quarter out, it’s sludge.
