COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Proteus is a series devised to make the most of three hops, with this volume using Apollo, Bravo and Simcoe. We’ve brewed three pale ales using the combination before creating this dialed-up IPA version, based on everything our brewers have learned about the hops and how they work together.

Bottle at home, 10/09/17. Hazed golden copper with a decent off white covering. Nose is orange pith, caramel, grass, soft breads, light spice. Taste comprises caramel malts, grapefruit, pine needle, toasted bread, mango. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with balanced hop bitterness. Decent enough IPA in the Old Skool mould ... got better as the journey progressed.

Bottle ordered from the brewery. Feint resin and pine. Bright amber, a tad hazy. Scant white head. Medium bitter with a vein of sweetness running through it. Booze in the finish. Light-medium bodied. Fizzy carb. Relatively abrupt finish. Enjoyable IPA. Does not go OTT.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, orange, tropical fruit, hops and citrus.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque amber/orange beer with medium yeast and with a slight off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, orange and tropical fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with hops and citrus.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. Great orange flavour with a slight trace of tropical fruit as well. Great appearance and a lovely creamy palate too. The aroma could have been stronger however.
