3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Enjoyed on tap at the brewery. A true kolsch combined with significant yeast and left unfiltered. So altogether not true to the style, made for risk control safer. I am getting the kolsch taste, the hops, from within the yeast mixture. Average mouthfeel. Carbonation is right there. Very drinkable. Significantly lacey.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
In short: A strange blonde beer… Meh.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed relatively fresh, bottle given to me in person by solidfunk when he was in Montreal, thanks a lot Josh.
The look: Cloudy dark blonde body topped by a medium off-white head.
In long: Nose is dried cereal grains, straws, wheat, some fruity esters of apples and others. In mouth the beer has a rather full body and with a medium carbonation, a mouthfeel that is strangely a bit too heavy for a thirst beer. Taste is loaded with biscuits, more biscuits, some residual sugars, dried fruits, young apples, mild acidity. The sweet biscuity malts taste like fortune cookies. A bit too sweet for a thirst blonde beer. I’ve never been a fan of the Kölsch style, but the good examples I’ve had were easy to drink simple clean cereals-focussed blonde beers, this wasn’t the case here. This was an awkward beer. Pretty lame. A thirst Kölsch is not rocket science, I hate it when people are too stupid to get even the simplest things right, like when I come back from the grocery and realized some jackass has packed my bread at the bottom of the bag under the cans and my bread is all squished, and that’s why I don’t use the self-checkout line anymore.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
625 mL bottle from the brewery, served in a branded stem glass. Pours hazy orange with a small, rocky white head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves no lace. The nose has a slightly fruity nose with grain, honey and perhaps subtle spice. The flavour is lightly sweet with honey-caramel biscuity malts combined with subtle herbal hops. The finish is short and fairly clean, with malt predominance. On the palate it is light in body with a smooth, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a fairly bland but inoffensive kölsch. 2014-09-22

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the brewery. Very cloudy deep gold pour with orange highlights. Very small white head (even after an regressive pour) that is quickly gone. Very strongly sweet toffee and honey nose with apple and vanilla and a hint of pepper. Medium sweet toffee start that is not as overpowering as the nose would indicate. A medium light lemon bitterness shows up in the middle to balance and a light spice is in the background throughout. Medium creamy mouth with soft carbonation. Not my favourite style, but this one is interesting.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is very clean and dominated by light sweet malts with hints of light fruit sweetness and hops. There is an apple sweetness to the taste that is complemented by just enough hops to leave a clean, crisp finish.
