Great coffee aroma and flavor. Thin mouth feel but delicious all the same. Head retention was okay. Rep at Wholefoods gave great information and I even bought two bottles to share. They were well received by some out of town guests who returned to Wholefoods to get a couple bottle for themselves. unrulythings (73) - Bend, Oregon, USA - APR 10, 2008
on tap at Green Dragon. pours a rich black color with a big head. filled with lots of rich coffee aromas and hints of spice. flavor is a tad on the sweet side, with lots of coffee and chocolate notes. thought this was quite a good brew. Uber fresh draft at Obriens. Dark brown with ruby highltights, minimal head with light lacing, good clarity. Nose is coffee grounds and espresso, Starbucks style. Flavor is pure coffee grounds with a hint if dark chocolate, moderate roast and bitterness, faint grassy hop flavors, finishes lightly sweet and roasty. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, watery. Super fresh coffee stout reiminiscent of Founders, love the roast and bittering here! raphael (1239) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 8, 2006
Had this on nitro at the pub. Aroma of a great cup of iced coffee. small tan head, but nice carbonation from the nitro. darkest brown & opaque. coffee flavor, mocha, just enoug hops to balance the sweet to a neural, but no hop flavor. maybe i enjoyed this more as I’m not a big porter fan, but I was impressed. 2 for 2 with beers from Six Rivers. This beer has a HUGE aroma of coffee and chocolate, like a decadent dessert of some kind. The roastyness of the aroma borders on being ashy, but not quite there. Any more so, and the score would go from a 9 down to about 3 or 4. Flavor is more coffee and a powdery chocolate bitterness that reminds me of Hershey’s baking powder. The residual sweetness is kept on the low-medium side, so the bitterness of the malts really shows. Really nice. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - JUL 23, 2010
Pours dark brown with some ruby tinged edges when held up to the light. The aroma is really inviting with a heavy roasted coffee presence, some nuttiness. The flavor is dry and roasted with lots of coffee and nuts. The body is a bit thin, but very tasty. chinchill (4916) - South Carolina, USA - JUL 8, 2014
On tap at the brewpub.
A: a very durable creamy tan head leaves some sticky lacing. Clear but nearly opaque dark brown.
Aroma: mix of medium- and dark-malts with light-roasted coffee.
Flavor: Mix of medium- and dark-malts with light-roasted coffee. Excellent balance between the coffee an the malts. Faint hop presence.
Feel: near medium body with medium soft carbonation.
O: well-crafted coffee porter. hayduke (5187) - Eureka, California, USA - AUG 27, 2006
At Hops in Humboldt Micro-Brew Festival in 4 oz glass. Looks like French Roast. For that matter smells like French Roast. Shucks, tastes like French Roast. If you like your Porter to take lile coffee this is the one. I like Porter as just that so I have to rate this as coffee royale. Good though. Strong coffee roast aroma. Small beige head. Black smooth on the palate and a little bitter with a full coffee roast finish.
