2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
This beer presents itself as a DIPA, but oddly enough, it’s the caramel malts that hit the nose when I sniff from the glass. Somewhat surprising and without a date on the bottle it’s tough for me to figure out if that’s what the brewer intended or something that may have went wrong at the liquor store. There’s also a faint mustiness as well. Color is a nice deep reddish amber, with tight unified bubbles leaving a frothy and creamy head. It really looks gorgeous in my tulip glass. The initial taste yields substantial bitterness, with an appropriate amount of alcohol present in the finish. The beer warms as it goes down, perhaps not a surprise given the ABV levels. While I can pick out the alcohol character it isn’t the unpleasant kind, but works within the framework of the beer. Sadly I don’t get a lot of hop character out of this beer, which is disappointing as I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks and it’s just not there. Mouthfeel is pretty heavy and bordering on syrupy, and despite the pretty head carbonation just isn’t there, most likely due to the higher ABV. Unfortunately, without the hops to carry things forward the beer quickly turns into a malt-caramel-alcohol bomb, with heavy malt up front and alcohol in the after finish. Somewhat disappointing, though I’d like to try a sample fresh from the brewery and see if it still has the same kind of issues.
Enjoyed at the brewpub, pours a clear golden amber with a creamy white head, the aroma has a nice hop and citrus touch right at first and the flavor is much of the same, nice citrus right at first with a balanced amount of malt and sweetness, not a hop bomb but not a malt bomb at the same time, not bad. Bomber with Jesse at the Lincoln Wine Bar. Quite drinkable. On the sweetish side, thick body. Good double. Braudog (6900) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - DEC 16, 2014
Bottle. There’s a little extra boil on the opening that makes me leery. And indeed this one has a bit of a funk to it that I think not natural. I get the tart citric acidity, but it only lurks in the background behind what might be a wild fermentation drill (not as advertised) or a slight infection. The off-putting farmhouse sourness doesn’t seem to fit. (#5890, 12/16/2014) bytemesis (9489) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - DEC 8, 2014

Draft. A very piney nose with light citrus. Taste is rather sweet. Overall ok but not a particular stand out. coachd (971) - Missouri, USA - MAR 21, 2014
Only 54 ratings? People need to discover 6 row! This one smells strongly of pine, some honey and grapefruit. Very pleasant aroma. Dark orange in color, hazy, one can tell it’s unfiltered. Solid white head that lingers and laces well. The grapefruit comes through again in the taste, followed again by honey and floral hops. Aftertaste is bitter but not overwhelming. Refreshing. I would drink this again. Btw, anyone who is in the St. Louis area should check out 6 row’s tap room on Forest Park Ave. It’s a great, cheap place to drink with good food. No, I do not work for 6 Row. Beergeek23322 (2602) - Chester, Virginia, USA - JAN 6, 2014
