Bottle pours black with thick foamy tan head. Aroma a little smoke with mild roast malts. Taste kind of a mild porter with malts, roast, a little coffee, oak. Palate thin and watery. Finish mildly bitter with oak. The whiskey is there but quite subdued.nimbleprop (8591) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 19, 2013
Reminded me a a good but not great homebrew. Pretty drinkable but I wouldn’t seek it out again.
22oz bottle pours a watery, translucent black with some cloudy beige head. Mild nose, malty, coffee beans, a little vegetal. Flavor is sweet, malty, light coffee, malt, brown sugar. Thin finish. Not my favorite. MrChopin (4304) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 13, 2013
hazy dark sepia, thin cream head large bubbled ring. Roasty nose, cocoa, light off cherry. Flavor is light cherry tartness up front, then roast turning to cocoa mid before wood and sugar finish. Balanced, soft body and profile, nicely dry but nuanced. GT (10001) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 12, 2013
651mL thanks to my secretsanta! Pours a inky, deep ruby, Thick coffee foam with rocky formation and big lacing. Nose is pepper, tomato, dark chocolate. Taste is watery, acidic, lemon, powdery. Palate is clean, lemon, lactic, tart. Good- no barrel character. alexsdad06 (10578) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JAN 7, 2013
22 oz. bottle from phaleslu. Pours a very dark brown to black color with a thin off white film. The aroma was roasted malts, caramel, light coffee with some strange dark fruits and only a hint of whiskey if I agitated the glass. The flavor has roasted malts, some coffee, caramel, dark fruits and light whiskey notes. The body is a bit thin. Just OK.

Pours deep brown with a small soapy tan head. The aroma has whiskey, vanilla, smooth roast, berries, cocoa and some sourness. Medium / light body with a low amount of carbonation. The flavor begins with sourness, berries, smooth unbitter roast and some bugginess. The finish is sour and has some mineral aspects. Decent beer and more of an older style of porter from what I can tell. elmillero (8) - Granite City, Illinois, USA - OCT 24, 2012 does not count
Didn't quite hit the mark in my opinion. Mouth feel was thin. Not a whole lot of whiskey notes or barrel notes either. As for a porter, the mouth feel had little body and needs more viscosity. At 6% alcohol by volume I am very disappointed as I am a big fan of six row other beers.

Bottle sampled at 2012 Brad Fest in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a deep brown color with tan head. Roasted, smoky, earthy flavors. I don’t get a lot of whiskey or barrel flavors in this beer. Not too exciting. cubs (10651) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 15, 2012
Bottle @ Brad’s house Minneapolis, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a clear dark brown appearance with a brown head. A touch tart/fruity, oaky, pretty rich whiskey, tangy, a touch watery aroma. Tangy, a bit tart, chocolate, somewhat watery flavor. Not horrible but several things taste off in this to me. beernbourbon (1596) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - APR 22, 2012
Bottle. Pour is deep, murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma is not as robust as expected but nice with swirling hints of sweet whiskey and light roasted malt. Also a faint dark fruit notes. Flavor is light and smooth loaded with light, sweet, smoky flavors with hints of peat. I really like the subtle smokey notes. It has all the makings of a great beer. Just a little subdued. Still good stuff.
