On tap at the OBF. I was looking forward to trying this one because I disliked its base so much. Let’s go to the scoreboard!
A: Dark mahogany with a creme colored head. Some lacing.
N: Vanilla, cocoa, coffee, oak, coconut. Medicinal and herbal elements. Bourbon is not as pronounced as I would have hoped.
T: Brackish bitter and intensely unpleasant sweetness. (It’s not cloying, but it’s not just sweet, either.) Bad as the regular.
M: Chalky, medium body. Alcohol burn.
O: A marginal improvement on the original that is still a pass. raphael (1271) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 24, 2014
Powerful beer, on tap at Oregon Brewers Festival. Darkest brown with creamy khaki head. Aroma of coffee, roast malt, alcohol, toffee. Flavors similar with coffee, bitter chocolate, whiskey, burnt sugar. Dry alcohol finish. My favorite at the festival. pdx77 (1483) - Oregon, USA - JUL 23, 2014
On draught at 27th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival. Almost black brown color. Aroma is whiskey, iced coffee, and dark chocolate. Taste is whiskey, iced coffee, milk and dark chocolates, and roasted malt. Very smooth with a deep chocolate coffee aftertaste.

Barrel aged hits the spot... on tap at the sampler, plenty of chocolate and coffee follows from the nose to the last sip. the chocolate is similar to bitter bakers chocolate. Pours black slightly oily with tight beaded head. mansquito (6514) - Nueva York, New York, USA - JUN 30, 2014
The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is whiskey and wood, of course, so there are hints of vanilla; aside of that, one can get out glimpses of the base beer, such as fresh coffee and chocolate. Taste is not as good as 3beans normal, which I found to be quite tasty. There the flavors were unadulterated; here, there was too much stuff going on. HonusWagner (2191) - Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2014
Nowhere near as good as the base beer. Has a kinda generic coffee stout thing with a bit of bourbon sweetness and a cheap whiskey finish. Ebf 2014. jredmond (8338) - New York, New York, USA - MAY 18, 2014
Draft at barcade with Linh during some lazy Sunday drinking. Pours a pitch black body with light lacing. Aroma is straight KBS - really nice barrel aged coffee stout flavors. Unfortunately the flavor falls short, quite literally too. The palate really drops off and you’re left with a generic boozy flavor. If the flavor was up to par with the nose this would be killer. b3shine (8940) - Indiana, USA - MAY 9, 2014
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a slightly cloudy dark brown with beige lacing. Smells solid; dark malt and dark chocolate with notes of oak and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with some roast as well. Average on the palate. Solid, but the BA Otis blows this away.
