brewskis (123) - Saint John, Indiana, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Pours pretty much black with just a hint of dark brown and ruby red towards the bottom of the glass. Finger length off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a thick lacing around the edges. Smells of mostly coffee beans, as well as some vanilla/carmel, bakers chocolate, and some roasted malt. Taste starts with intense, roasted coffee beans. Much stronger taste than the aroma suggests. Almost imparts an earthy flavor from the coffee beans. Then smooths out in the middle. Get some vanilla or carmel that acts like a coffee creamer and lightens the intensity of the coffee. Then the finish brings back some intense coffee flavors, in addition to some carmel, some bittersweet chocolate, as well as some bitterness from the fairly heavy hop presence. Sweetness increases as the flavor profile moves on. Pretty full body with a creamy and slick mouthfeel. Lively carbonation that reminds you that this is an imperial porter, not an imperial stout, and makes the beer much more refreshing for a full-bodied beer. No alcohol detected in the smell or taste. Good stuff.

The aroma is chocolate, coffee, cream, cereal grains, brown sugar. The appearance is deep brown/black, light tan head, slight reddish hue. The flavor is coffee, cocoa, spicy wheat, brown sugar, light roast. The finish is roasty, pine needles, bittersweet chocolate. Medium in body, more carbonation than expected. Nicely done. Not the equal of Victory at Sea, but still good.

Can. Mocha malt aroma. Dark brown with large tan head. Sweet chocolate and creamy coffee malt flavor. Nice body. Very tasty.

Can. Pours black with a big off-white head that fades normally. Lots of lacing. Great appearance. Aroma of coffee beans and dark chocolate but there is something else throwing it off. I had to read other reviews until I finally realized what I was smelling. Overripe bananas. Really weird. The overripe bananas come through it the taste too along with the coffee and chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter, banana taste lingers. Nice thick mouthfeel though and no alcohol detected at all. Hard to rate this beer. Love the appearance and mouthfeel but that overripe banana taste throws everything off. Overall, it was just ok to me but I could see why some people would love it.

Nephilium (1818) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - FEB 22, 2013
This one starts with a big chocolate aroma, and pours an opaque black with a full light tan head. Great big roasted notes, come through in this beer, with a slick mouthfeel and a lingering roasted finish. There’s a touch of alcohol heat noticeable, but it’s not overpowering. This is a really good chocolate coffee porter, and I highly recommend it.

Can. Very good strong coffee beer. Thick, deep brown color, smooth, lots of coffee taste.

dogfishho (669) - Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA - FEB 22, 2013
Pours thick and dark with a light brown head. The aroma is filled with chocolate and coffee, but there is also some sort of bizarre hairspray-ish note (alcohol?) that throws everything off. On the palate, the coffee and chocolate are present but the sweetness is almost overwhelming. Also, this beer needs to be served at damn near room temperature in order to taste good. Kind of disappointing from Sixpoint.

Beautiful dark pour with an ample head. A dark beer lover should give this a try. You will enjoy the full bodied taste.

queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Can. Dark chocolate, earthy coffee, and light alcohol aroma - a bit like a sweet creamy cafe mocha. Deep mahogany with an extremely large creamy tan head, nice lacing. Sweet and bitter baker’s chocolate, earthy coffee, and a roasty charred bitter finish. Medium to full body, very soft carbonation.

BREWMUSKCLES (2686) - New Jersey, USA - FEB 20, 2013
dark brown with light brown head and low aroma of coffee and perfume. beer initially a coffee with cream and sugar brew of slick and moderately full body with alcohol and grapefruit citrus flavor in ivy that finishes long. beer warms into a flavor of overripe and fermented banana while still holding a bit of pudding to it. a real winner here!
