Bright gold translucent color with small white head and nice messy lacing. Aroma is piercing, citrusy and grassy, with slight vinous fruit notes and a little alcohol tingle. Flavor is intensely hoppy, resiny and piney, with a candy sweetness, and a faint earthy, malty finish. Mouthfeel is a bit oily with fairly evident alcohol presence, but still easy to drink. Was $12/4pk which a bit much, but fair considering the abv.

12 ounce can. Bright honey gold color. Large frothy white head. Nice lacing. Fruity malt nose evokes peach, melon and apple. Big sweeping bittersweet flavor. Pine, berries, resin, stoned fruit, candied orange peel, simple syrup, blue spruce and warming alcohol. Yeah, there’s a lot going on here. A bit too sweet; definitely old school DIPA.

Big boozy citrus hop profile, with the alcohol overpowering everything else

Aromas of fresh squeezed lemons, apple juice, pines, citrus, caramel, leafy, herby hops, melon juice and apricots. Pours copper with almost no foam and mild lacing against the glass. Taste brings fresh bitter hops, juicy tangerine, apricot, mango, peach, leafy, earthy hops upfront. Honey, slick malt syrup, molasses, bright citrus, slight chalky grainy malts, bittersweet honeysuckle and resinous hops comes through mid palate. Finishes bitter yet sweet with plenty of bitter and piney hops. Overall, a very unique IIPA with a lot of flavor and a distinct honey note to it. B+ rating.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with tropical fruit.

Lovely nose, full of pine and mango, and pour’s equally striking, a bright, clear gold with a modest head and lots o’ lacing. Taste is...odd, unfortunately, not bad, just a bit curious, big and malty but with a distinct fruit punch vein coursing underneath all the caramel and pine. Tropical fruits--mango and pineapple, mainly--form a modest but firm fruity backbone. Otherwise, Hi-Res could use a little less sweetness; the tiniest bit more caramel and you’re entering barleywine territory.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Golden color, clean, with medium head. Delicate aroma of malt and stone fruit. Full bodied, malty, but lean, some toffee but luckily with no caramel; balanced bitterness, the hopping provides some resins, but it’s not very bright.
Solid IIPA, not a modern one beware.

Light bronze. Thin head. Earthy and slightly cheesy aroma. On the palate, a sweetish malt character that shows a touch of caramel. With a bit of crystal malt chewiness, a fair bit of bitterness and some alcohol in the finish as well, this is a bit of an old school IIPA.
