The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose explodes with coffee. Taste is also dominated by coffee backed by toasted crusty baguette, caramel, some toasted nuts, distant leafy hops. Very easy to drink. I thought this beer was a lot of fun and we rarely get intensely coffee flavored beer outside the dark roasted porter/stouts. This beer proves that intense coffee can be very well integrated into other style of beers. So I’m rating a beer called Mad Scientist today on a Friday the 13th. And I’m not even scared. Not because I am not superticious. It’s just that my life can’t possibly get any worse.
Draft at EBF. Pours a bruin orange body with a white head. Aromatically very roast y with coffee toned bitterness. A nice mild chocolate malt with some mild sweetness and drying finish. Nice. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 24, 2011

I’ll start out by saying that it’s interesting that no one else mentioned coffee in their review of this here. That’s pretty much what everyone at the tasting I attended was focused on, and it doesn’t appear that there is any issue with the name of the beer, as we definitely had the spelt wine. Brew itself was light brown. The nose carried loads of coffee along with a bit of roast and caramel. Aside from that, there were some hops and a bit of toffee. Really soft and clean. Interesting and enjoyable.

Infused with cold pressed Stumptown coffee this brew makes for a perfect way to start your day. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Huge aroma of freshly ground coffee beans followed by a smooth sip of the best ice coffee you’ve ever tasted. Unfortunately, the beer element of this bock was hardly noticeable. Considering they brewed a lager it’s not surprising that the coffee completely dominates the entire profile of this beer. I wonder what would happen if I added milk. Hazy amber brown pour light beige head decent lacing ..... aroma of fresh coffee beans ..... taste is roasted coffee, little grainy and sweet caramel malt but more so as it warmed ..... finishes dry malty and lingering roasted coffee ..... medium body abv hidden well a nice twist on a bock

Sampled from the tap at EBF. Poured a cloudy deep amber with a brown hue and near white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had coffee throughout with a backing dark grain note. Strong aroma of coffee, slight underpinings of caramel. The appearance is a semi-hazy orange brown, white head. The flavor is again dominated by coffee, but is smooth, and not overly roasted. It;s hard to pick out much else about the beer, as the coffee is so overpowering. Medium in body, maybe a little on the thick side. The finish is again strong coffee. I think they overdid the coffee on this one. Still, a unique and enjoyable beverage.
