They should be good men; their affairs as righteous: But all hoods make not monks. Beneath a deep blanket of snow there is a cereal grain that can survive the harsh winters and acidic soils - RYE. Like a draped hood over a monk, it is the righteousness inside that shines.

Canned (backlog). Hazy ambery brown colour with a small, but longlasting off-white head that also leaves some lace. Aroma is mildly toasted, nutty, some rye as well as quite strong on the floral and fruity side too. Flavour is ryebread, some mild toasted notes, grains as well as some mild fruity and wooden notes as well. Mellow and in a strange way this one was a sipper, but something you just wanted more of.

Had on draught a few times, most recently at the Ainslie Block Party. Pours a dark, muddy brown with a medium, tan-white head. Aroma has some nice, roasty malts, wood, spice and mild caramel. Flavor is sweet with more caramel and, doughy bread, rye spiceiness and some earthy bitters. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes with some light, burnt malts and lingering hops. A very good, dynamic beer.
