Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – Served a clear orange amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head fades relatively quickly to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The nose was heavy of sweet and citrus hop smells. The sweeter aromas were a blend of tropical fruit aromas of tangerine, mango, and papaya mixed with a caramel smell. The citrus hop was largely of a ruby-red grapefruit variety, but along with this were a lighter hop aroma of some pine and lemon aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet tropical fruit flavor of tangerine and some light mango along with a bready flavor. Upfront there was also a moderate amount of grapefruit hop flavor. The grapefruit hop grows stronger more toward the middle of the taste where it reaches its maximum intensity and retains this way throughout the remainder of the taste. Once the grapefruit hits its apex, some pine and floral notes begin coming to the tongue. They remain light throughout the taste, but persist, and when joined by a light caramel flavor that comes at the end of the taste, one is left with a somewhat bitter, but still smoother citrus hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel –The body of the beer was rather average in terms of its thickness, possibly with just a bit more chewiness then the average. The carbonation is rather average as well, providing a good drinkability as well as good for the hoppy and citrus flavors of the brew.
Overall – A good single hoped brew. The Riwaka have a nice flavor profile, while mostly citrus in nature, they contain other flavors and aromas as well and never take too bitter a flavor for good drinkability. A tasty and nice brew to try if you get a chance.

On draft. Pour was orange gold. The head was weak, lacing ok. The aroma was floral, orange/citrus. Flavor had some orangey zest in it, musty notes. More bitterness desired. Underwhelming run of Sixpoint pale ales in a Sixpoint tap takeover. kaser (6314) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Poured from draft. Hazy light orange. Not much aroma. Looks better than it tastes. Boring taste. Somewhat hoppy and grapefruit hints. Just ok for being my style of beer

On tap at Whole Foods. Orangish/golden pour with two finger white head. Citrusy at first, but changes to pine as it warms, some floral notes. High bitterness with long aftertaste, moderate sweetness that you don’t notice until later. The aromas don’t quite blend well, but it’s a decent beer nonetheless. Draft @ LFK . Poured a slightly hazy light golden color with a finger of foam...
Aromas are earthy straw, grapefruit and a touch of rotten apple. On the palate it follows the nose with a strong wood pulp, straw, wet hay backbone being brightened up by some citrusy grapefruit... a bit fuller than Id like on the mouthfeel and a bit sticky too. Not my favorite of the spice of life series but I applaude the concept.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Poured a very cloudy brown orange. Frothy off-white head that left lace. Strong bitter and earthy. Bit like muddy well water. Rotting orange peels. Hay. Pineneedles. Harsh but bold. Unlike any other single hop brew I have had. czar (9172) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 26, 2012
on tap at reservoir, waterbury. hazy golden, orange tint, with a decent white head head, little retention. floral, crisp malts, citrusy, zesty. almost aggressive carbonation, light body - faint malts, decent citrusy finish. slightly unbalanced though. arone12 (929) - Maryland, USA - SEP 20, 2012
Pours an orange color. Smells slightly of hops. Nice flavors with some citrus. Not overly hoppy. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 19, 2012
16oz pint at Habits Cafe. Good thin off-white head. Hazy orange yellow color, with some particles floating about in the body. Good crisp lighter carbonation, more dry texture. Some orange, light pepper, grassy herbs. Little lace. Light bitter taste, some zest. I always enjoy trying these single-hop brews. Great way to learn about what a particular hop varietal brings to a brew mcberko (18081) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 13, 2012
On tap at The Reservoir in Waterbury, VT. Pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is quite mild, a hint of floral notes and some subtle funky notes. Flavour features floral and perfumey hop notes, with only a tad of funk. Way more perfumey and way less funky than the Riwaka pale ale I just had by Hill Farmstead (needless to say, which is better). The perfume notes become annoying the more you drink, forcing me to lower my score. Decent IPA, but not a good use of these hops.
