Malty and nutty aroma. Pours cloudy brown. Nutty malty flavor with a solid hop presence. I get hints of coffee in the finish too. nearbeer (5558) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 10, 2007
12 oz, bottled 5th week of May. Beautiful deep mahogany, with ruby highlights. Medium-sized, creamy head that lasts. Spicy, earthy molasses, cocoa, and toasted nut aroma. Flavor is incredibly balanced, and fairly complex for a brown. Mostly dry toasted nut; some cocoa; slight coffee; sourish, earthy and metallic molasses; delicately bitter herbs on the finish. Medium-bodied, creamy smooth, slightly watery and refreshing palate. Excellent brown ale that could be a great session beer. fro2218 (471) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - SEP 27, 2007
It is brown. Smells a like caramel. No nut flavor or smell to be seen. Way too much carbonation. This beer foams like crazy in your mouth and interferes with any tasting much. ksigty (107) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - SEP 25, 2007
Good color, good flavor. Like other posters, not much aroma and the flavor doesn’t last very long. An average nut brown. ChainGangGuy (4919) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 23, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 23, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown with a dense, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, enormously nutty aroma. Hints of cocoa powder.
Taste: The taste is initially semi-sweet, but incredibly nutty and toasted all the while. Again, there’s that hint of cocoa. Just enough of a gentle, subtle bitterness on the dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: I’ll tell you what, it was surprisingly nice, at least on-tap.

Really not much aroma but a solid dark color. Flavor is a little toasty and a bit nutty. Nothing to write home about; the finish is nutty but also a lttle thin at the same time. luckygirl (1223) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 11, 2007
Bottled. Beer is clear, dark mahogany brown. Head is off-white, frothy, initially small, rapidly and almost totally diminishing.
The aroma is malty with moderate notes of husky toasted grain, light wort and toasted nuts; Hoppy with light notes of herb; Yeasty with a light note of sticky dough.
The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly acidic with an average-length, lightly acidic, lightly sweet, trace bitter finish.
The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.

Oddly tangy and raw. SoylentBlack (123) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - JUL 1, 2007
Malty. Really nice color for a brown. Nothing spectacular, but very drinkable. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - MAY 27, 2007
Good name; not so good beer. Brownish color. Hit the style in flavor, but was pretty bland. Could have been more assertive. unclemattie (4357) - Georgia, USA - APR 24, 2007
