Crisp, fresh, complex wave of malty intensity. Good persistent presence that does not overwhelm. An elixir. ChainGangGuy (4894) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 23, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 23, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown with a dense, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, enormously nutty aroma. Hints of cocoa powder.
Taste: The taste is initially semi-sweet, but incredibly nutty and toasted all the while. Again, there’s that hint of cocoa. Just enough of a gentle, subtle bitterness on the dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: I’ll tell you what, it was surprisingly nice, at least on-tap. jsmerig (1583) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2011
Aroma of maple and roasted nut. Pours a deep brown with an off-white head. Taste is warmly sweet to start Peaking with a roasted maple flavor offset with a touch of hops. Nicely balanced. nearbeer (5412) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 10, 2007
12 oz, bottled 5th week of May. Beautiful deep mahogany, with ruby highlights. Medium-sized, creamy head that lasts. Spicy, earthy molasses, cocoa, and toasted nut aroma. Flavor is incredibly balanced, and fairly complex for a brown. Mostly dry toasted nut; some cocoa; slight coffee; sourish, earthy and metallic molasses; delicately bitter herbs on the finish. Medium-bodied, creamy smooth, slightly watery and refreshing palate. Excellent brown ale that could be a great session beer.

Flavors of leather are forward with coffee, coaco, charcoal, with a slight nuttiness. Dry with a nice mellow bitterness on the finish. Well ballanced. On tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Asheville, NC. Wow, nice looking brew. It pours a striking amber with creamy top and bubbly underneath tan head. The aroma is full of rich malts and nuttiness and a touch of chocolate too. The taste is sort of Newcastle like but richer and chewier which is a very nice feature. It is nutty, sweet with malts and seems kind of lager-y with yeast. After a few ounces this thin bodied beer gets pretty sweet.
