Pours dark brown in color with a khaki colored head. Roasted malt and cocoa aromas with a hint of toffee and graham cracker. A decent amount of red wine, oak, and fruit. The flavor has a touch of coffee to go along with the roasted malt and cocoa. Decent amount of red wine and oak character, maybe a hint of vanilla, and some sweet toffee and graham cracker. Quite nice. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JAN 12, 2012

Tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Deep black appearance with a dark brown head. Roasty chocolate malty nose with the Merlot aroma coming through that. Very roasted dark chocolate malty flavor with the Merlot flavor creating a very complex taste and finish. Roasty finish. Interesting but not amazing. hellbilly (3306) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - DEC 26, 2010
on tap 7/17/10.
reddish blackish brown with a soft off white head.
big vinous aroma... cherries, chocolate, roast, cream, ash, smoke and wood.
the flavor is a little savory from autolyzed yeast-ish notes... mixed with a bunch of grape-y wine, wood, roast and some bitterness on the finish. there’s a tartness throughout which helps keep the creamy mouth feel and lux texture in check. 7/3/7/4/16/3.7 Vikingbrew (193) - Colorado, USA - SEP 23, 2010
