Judging rom the name, somebody must have been fooled again. Shame on them. OTSA is the winner of our 4th Annual GABF Pro-AM Homebrew comp; a traditional German Weizenbock brewed with Pam Bradley from Austin, TX!

Bomber. Caramel aroma with notes of toffee and some nuttiness as well as a bit of banana. Pours caramel brown colored with a thin tan head with mediocre retention and some lacing. Starts with lots of sweet caramel and toffee malt making it very sticky sweet that's almost too much. Finishes smooth with some nuttiness as well as a bit of banana. Unfortunately at the very end there are astringent soapy flavors as well. Started well then the finish ruined it.

355ml bottle sample (Birofilia2014, Zywiec)
Pleasant heady sweet sticky dark roast aroma. A touch yeasty and malt heavy. Mahogony. Mellow palate. Wood glues aroma, some solvents. Slightly watert. Toffee. Almost barleywine richness. I enjoy this more than I should given some of the odd flavours. Rye also comes through in the finish, bizarrely.

Marduk (7707) - Reval, ESTONIA - JUL 9, 2014
750ml bottle. Clear brown color. Tiny to almost no head. Malty and sweet aroma. Sweet, mint, malty, caramel, faint chocolate and candy in taste. Malty, spicy notes in aftertaste. Faint sense of alcohol. Sweet and sticky.

uhclem (429) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - DEC 1, 2013
Not a good drink. The aroma made a promise that couldn’t be kept. This resembled a beer the same way Frankenstein’s monster resembled a man - it was a mishmash of ingredients that failed to cohere. 3 sips and down the sink.

JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - AUG 18, 2013
Brown pour, nice frothy head. Lots of banana, cloves, and sugary sweetness, but doesn’t seem to blend well together overall. Its good, but missing something.

daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 31, 2013
Brown pour at Fate. Light tannish colored head. Banana, cloves, yeasty, bread, wheat thins. Solid but not amazing.

dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 12, 2013
On draught for the Fate Ska tap takeover. Pours clear light mahogany with an eggshell head. Aroma is banana, coriander and biscuit. Taste is banana, malt, candied sugar. Medium bodied and sticky. Good, but a little sloppy compared to the Germans.

IrishBoy (4201) - Bakersfield, California, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Bomber shared by Ratman. Nose is banana, caramel, cloves, and a little bubblegum. Clear rust with a small beige head. Flavor is white peppery with caramel and light bitterness.

BeerandBlues2 (13326) - Escondido, California, USA - JAN 16, 2013
Bottle. Pours clear brown with a large, frothy and fizzy light tan head, medium retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is cooked and lightly caramelized bananas, faint nutty malt notes, toast and cookie malt with spicy hop notes and candi sugar. Flavor is heavy banana and sweet malt, spicy wheat notes with no hop flavor, light to no hop bitterness, and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation. This is like liquid banana bread.

arminjewell (9676) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Pour on tap at the CO rare beer tasting 2012, dark reddish brown pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of banana, toffee, spicy esters, touch of earth, chocolate, hints of sweet fruit in there as well. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, some banana, spicy esters mixing into some fruit notes, finishing fairly sweet. Eh.
