Its Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

Bottle. Pours out in a shady amber colour with a small creamy off-white head. Rather sweet and sticky resinous aroma with sweetish fruity notes of red grapefruit, red oranges and apricots. Medium-bodied with thick plastic resinous notes of grapefruit and red orange juice. Quite sticky yet bitter finish of grapefruit and red oranges. Not a favorite of mine. Simply too sticky and oily with a dead palate.

Clear copper pour with a nice white head. Beer looks great. Mostly hops on the tongue with a lasting bitterness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Nicely done. Not a bad brew.

Great super hazy copper coloured body with a dense, long-lasting off-white head that leaves a decent lace. TONS of aroma of cascade and high a.a. hops, a lot of resiny sweetness and a bitter dose of grapefruit and pine - definitely mouthwatering as soon as you open the can! Medium-bodied; Strong assertive hoppy flavour at first with a good citrus and grapefruit finish to the hops with a rather thin and unbalanced malt backbone - not much malt presence in relationship to the hops. Aftertaste focuses completely on the hop bitterness - which is nice in my book, so lingering alcohol or depth/body to the beer, just hops and more hops. Overall, a very nicely done IPA that is structured more for folks who just want the hops and not so much malt and body - this is kind of a reverse Imperial IPA, focusing on the hops and leaving a lightish mouthfeel. I sampled this twelve ounce can (love it) purchased at Colorado Liquor Mart in Denver, Colorado on 14-February-2010, sampled at home in Washington almost a year later on 11-February-2011.

Hazy hazy deep orange, with a fading ivory head. Very bitter aroma; heavy grapefruit and floral hops, with a background of grass. Its a bitter smelling bouquet of hops! A huge foreshadowing of the taste to come. Taste is very crisp and bitter. Big bitterness, somewhat complex hop profile. But not without some strong malt backup--Im getting some toffee and earty bread combined. But its really not as assertive as the hops. Its a big imbalanced bitter hop-slam. I can see how some people would enjoy this thing, but its not for me.

Can, at Patricks. A clear dark amber beer with a small, off-white head. Piney, slightly citrus-peel like aroma with a malty slightly caramel back. Mostly hoppy aroma, pine cones, some citrus and a healthy dose of bitterness. Malty base, a bit too sweet. Full body, nice carbonation level. Sweet finish with, luckily, a solid dose of bitterness. A nice one, but slightly sweeter than I prefer. 110205

(Can) Pours clear amber with an off-white head. The aroma is piny and citric up front alongside more friendly notes of white flowers and black currant. Dry, mild toasted malt, almost cracker-like. The flavor is light sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic. Very well balanced. Citrus, pine, flowers and toast. The mouthfeel is soft and clean. Pine and resin lingers. Edium bodied.

12 oz can courtesy of Dak. Pours a lightly hazy copper color with a sudsy off-white head that has good retention and ample lacing. The aroma is strong with pine resins and grapefruit. The flavor is similar to the aroma with grapefruit and pine set in a caramel malt base. The palate seems just a bit off, and tha carbonation is lively. The finish is short and dry. Overall: A very tasty IPA.

355 ml can. Clear copper golden body with a big off-white head that fades rather quick. Fantastic aroma of strong citrus like peaches, grapefruit and pine with caramel. Flavor is nice and fruity refreshing with a caramel malt base. Rally smooth and does actually not feels particular bitter at all. Very nice aroma and a fresh start, but a bit short on the aftertaste. A great thirst-quencher.
