Its Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

Overwhelmin aroma of grapefruit and a bit of lilac bush. Nice head upon pour , and a dazzling semi opaque orange amber color. Striking appearence, then you can actually begin to taste with your nose in a way as you begin to sip. Refreshing burst of hop flavor, decent carbonation, not too much but there. Medium body has a crisp mouthfeel. Slight creaminess at the end. No sweet elements that I noticed, citrus, clove, and a bit of burnt toast taste. Sort of ashy tasting, not as balanced as I like, but definatly a high end American style hopped up IPA.

// Beeroda.hu Tasting Sessions @ Budapest 2016. Malt sweetness, with fairly dank and mildly citrus hop profile: strong body without being too sweet. Good stuff.

A shot in the dark to try this beer. Never heard of it. Purchased in a six pack of cans at the local grocery store. Opens very well with a impressive dark yellow amber color with a swell tall off-white foam which goes the distance. I detect juniper and a slight floral. A sip gives pine, citrus, some grassiness. Nice but not memorable. It ends with a decent bitterness lingering until I sipped again. The 6.8% alcohol is well hidden but quite welcome.

Frothy 3 finger slightly offwhite head that leaves lacing on the glass. Slightly hazy, deep amber coloured beer. Aroma is mostly orange, grapefruit and mango, with a hint of peach and used dishcloth. Taste is piney, grapefruit peel upfront and orange, malty sweetness together with a nice bitterness at the back. The taste lingers for a long time which is really nice. Good taste but not enough bite for a higher score. Impressive stickyness for a regular IPA. Overall a tasty, dangerously drinkable IPA at 6,8% ABV.

Can to Glass - pours a golden amber, nice sticky head, heavy lace. Aroma is orange, grapefruit, resin, biscuit. Pretty standard, well made double IPA. Creamy with spice... Nice soft citrus taste to it, very fresh hop profile, pleasant bitter finish.

From time to time, I will do a dual (or triple) comparison of beers. This is one of those times. Fruity nose; nice dark orange hue; front pallet of an orange citrus with a smooth hop balance. Finished with a lingering back pallet malty bitterness. NOTE: Very similar to La Cumbre Elevated II IPA except not quite the hop bite and while I love that bite, this one is a tick over the top (SKA=4; LaCumbre=3.9).
