A good imperial porter, but not as distinctive as many of SKA’s other beers-- it tastes very similar to "typical" Imperial Porters, with an alcoholy, roasty taste.
As with many imperial porters, it can be a challenge to drink. That’s part of the game, but the palate abuse seems a little more harsh here-- you get the vanilla and licoricy notes, but they’re not so subtle or sweet, a little more "mediciny."
The complexity is interesting enough to be worth trying, but it’s not a beer I found a reason to buy a third time around. hellbilly (3248) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - DEC 26, 2010
VERY excited to see this on tap 7/17/10!
dark porter brown with a small soft tan head.
it smells like really soft floral bourbon... iced tea, wood, roast, chocolate, mild coffee and a touch of spicy hops.
the flavor is the same... quite an enjoyable sipper once it warms up. there’s a slight barrel tartness which brings it all together.
medium bodied, soft and smooth but thin enough to be very dangerous. 8/3/8/4/17/4.0
