Editor’s note: In May 2007 Skagen changed the recipe for "Nordlys" making it a German Hefeweizen instead of a Belgian Wit. Also the hopping has changed.

Bottle received as a gift. Pours slightly hazy, pale yellow with white head. Yeasty and citrusy aroma with wheat. Taste is lightly wheaty and yeasty. No spices or banana. Light and dry with lively carbonation. Not band but a little bland.

Normalt er hvedeøl ikke min kop the, men med tiden går det dog bedre. Let syrlig, ingen banan. Er dog lidt flad i det, da der mangler en smag af noget mere, så som humle.

unclear golden apple-juice like color, small head, fruity spicy aroma, reminds me a little of a saison, thin mouthfeel, slightly tart, very little hoppyness, medium sweetness, a lot of fruits

Lacks both aroma and taste to catch up with the German ones. The foam is moderate and smells a little fresh grain, but in terms of taste, the classic taste of wheat malt and very little hops. I miss the taste of the yeast as the German Hefe. Tastes of fruit notes, and a little more hoppy aftertaste would also be preferable. Instead, this hefe less sweet than can be expected on the type and the fledgling hops gives no exciting edge to the end. It is a very easy to drink beer on a hot summer day it will probably be both thirst-quenching and reasonably tasty.

tfredvik (1941) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 25, 2015
Cloudy yellow body with a disappointingly small, short-lived white head. Rather strong aroma of Belgian yeast (wait, isn’t this supposed to be a German hefeweizen?), spices and citrus, with caramel in the back. On the tongue it feels closer to a hefe than a wit, although the banana (and banana caramel) is present in the back. Also quite citric. Light and dry with a pretty lively carbonation. A confusing, but nice-ish brew.
[50 cl bottle shared with josteirk at Steenbo the Summer House, enjoyed 1 month before BB date (but still no off-tastes)]

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2015 En noget skuffende øl fra Skagen Bryghus. Frisk smag, men andre laver bedre hefeweizen
