Dont be fooled by this name! Milkhouse Stout is not a sweet stout, as its name seems to imply. This is a dry stout with a rich roasted flavor and an ample dose of hops. We use a blend of five different barleys to achieve the robust taste that will tantalize your taste buds with every sip. Best served at about 45F in a room temperature pint glass.

Bottle from hopdog...thanks. Opens with a huge hiss. Pours with a full glass of head and the beer still continues to rush out of the bottle. Yep this one had some infection set in and I decided to rate it based on the fact that this seems to be a common thing with this beer and the fact that once it aired out it was a solid beer. Once it settled out a deep brownish/black beer came out that had hints of ruby red when held to the light. Aroma of tart/sour cherries, some dark chocolate, very fruity along with some hints of coffee and roasted malts. Flavor of the same tart/funky cherries, the fruity esters seemed to hide some of the roasted qualities. The infection that set in on this beer gave it some Jolly Pumpkin like qualities. Not sure that is what the brewer was going for but it still made for an enjoyable beer.

12oz bottle- Either a bad bottle or an old one but way too overcarbonated. A darb brown body with a huge tan head. Aroma of malt and bad beer. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, and then finishes with that funky old taste. Fairly light body for a stout.

MAny thanks to the fatkid13 for this brewski. The pour has a different look to it. The bubbles look like some sort of soda, then they settle to a nice looking foam head. The smell was simple, but not a whole lot there. The taste seems very carbonated up front, with a hint of fruitiness to it. Overall not a bad brew, just a little different.

Pours black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is stale tobacco smoke, chocolate, molases and prunes. The flavor is tart, some cherry, chocolate, quite bad. The mouthfeel is very thin with a bit of an astringent and sour finish.

Bottle. I did pour this just a bit rougher than I shouldve, but it was intensely heady. I had foam coming up to the top of my glass and out of the top of the bottle with only a couple of ounces sitting in the pint glass. A long while later Ive got a black beer with some reds discernable in the light and a rocky, creamy brown head on top. The aroma is quite fruity. Theres a definite sour/tartness, plums, light caramel, nectarine in the nose. Upfront in the mouth is a bittersweet, sour fruitiness much like plums that was most unexpected. I dont know what to think, really. Coffee and chocolate notes here are minimal, and if I were blindfolded I probably couldnt even discern that this is a stout. The finish is slightly hoppy. This is really strange and not all too appealing to me, even putting aside its off-style taste.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2006 Unique stout / dark ale hybrid. Pleasing distinctive sour lactic note-- that is no easy trick and perhaps achieved by the well-hopped dryness and ample carbonation. Subtle dark and light chocolate notes. This brew is getting low grades from people who have a preconceived expectation / desire for a traditional stout -- free your mind and your taste buds will follow.

Deep chestnut with a huge frothy tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, pipe bowl, some chocolate. Body too light for a stout and not enough thickness on the palate. Kind of lacking on the flavor. Too sweet for a dry stout and not sweet enough for a sweet stout. Seems a beer in search of an identity.
