A nice little Christmas pilsener, not that that is a thing. Really nothing special about this except from some lively carbonation.

(Slaghmuylder Kerstbier) Bottle 330 ml at home, surprised to see this is a pilsner. Served into a lager glass, ABV 5.2% Deep golden yellow colour on the body, crazy activity in it. Small but thick white head, with very good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Malty aroma but with a light citrus presence. Good taste too, again light malty with some citrus/lemon presence to break the sweetness, metallic notes on the finish, quite clean though. Medium thin body, good carbonation. Overall a very good beer, definitely not what you expect from something called kerstbier but still good.

Very unusual Christmas beer since this is not a spiced Scotch but a pils (pale lager), but then, if you come to think of it, Stella Artois once began as a Christmas beer too - so this one too refers to a forgotten time when pale lager overwhelmed Belgian beer culture even in Christmas versions. I agree with Tim Webb that this is one of the better Belgian lagers, with a deep yellow golden colour and an honest malt profile; corn has been added for the colour, but does not disturb, a first for me in pale lagers.

Sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Clear golden color, medium sized white head. Smell and taste are quite crisp, malts, hayish, lightly bitter. Average body and carbonation.

Pours a clear golden with a white head. Aroma of grains, slightly fruity, yeasty and some hops. Decent pale ale, but I had better hopes for this one, its not what I seek in a Christmas Ale.
