Bottle. Amber beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is standardly bitter with some yeastyness. The flavour is bitter with some toffee and roastedness and a fairly yeasty finish. Overall a reasonable but nonetheless standard bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask. Pours chestnut brown with thin lace top. Aroma modestly of malt earth yeast and bread. Tastes mainly of toasted malt but this is balanced by a certain sourness. A kind soul would call this balanced and a wise one would say one is enough.

Gamla anteckningar. Klar kopparbärnsten med ett stort lite gulnat gräddigt fluffigt snyggt suffleskum som ger snygg krans i glaset. Doft: kola, vanilj, aningen apelsinskal, lite jord och löv. Snål men trevligt brittisk doft. Lite bröd. Smak: karamell, kola/knäck, lite apelsin och gnuttan aprikos, mjuk lätt skalbeska, nötter. Mun: lättare kropp, mjuk kolsura, lätt något vattnig vätska. En trevlig lättsam brittisk bitter. Kola och vanilj med lite jordig humle. Inte mycket frukt. Gott så. 31 juli 2012.

Cask at Victoria Lounge Bar, Hanley. Pours chestnut with off white head. Tart sweetness, some caramel midway, herby finish. Weird, possibly on the turn.

Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear deep amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, yeast and some fruitiness. Taste of caramel, herbal hops, raisins, honey and a little nuttiness. Medium bodied, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. A malty finish with some bitterness. An overall decent best bitter.

Bottle from Home Bargains. Slightly deeper amber colour with a very thin head. There’s a fair mix of tastes and flavours here - certainly some caramel and malt, but there’s some fruit here to which is a touch stewed. Quite light and easy drinking.

On Cask at Charles Dickens Pub. Pours a clear dark amber with lasting white head and lace. Slight malty aromas. Medium body, mellow maltiness with slightly sweet flavor balance, nice woody character, mellow, dry hop finish. A classic nitter?

Strange aroma, slightly musty dried fruit, wood and glue. Flavour has some toffee sweetness and a touch of pear.
