COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One taste of this deep chocolate brown porter will explain why it won a silver medal at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival in Denver and continues to win the hearts of dark ale lovers everywhere. With a slightly hoppy aroma and a smooth, toasty malt character, Portage pairs well with food or stands alone as an exemplary sample of the robust porter style

DarkElf (3067) - La Jolla, California, USA - SEP 1, 2004
(Draft: Sleeping Lady Brewing Company in Anchorage, AK) The flavor is full-on toasty maltiness, moderately bitter, especially in the finish, and moderately sweet; Exceptional nose is very toasty with some dark roasted aromas; The palate is full bodied, but not heavy; Dark, dark brown, opaque, except at the edges; Tan head settles to a thin layer but leaves dense, thick lacing; Having tasted 10 beers at Sleeping Lady, this is probably their best beer

On tap at the brewpub July 10. I’ve recently gotten back into drinking porters and stouts, so this one was a treat. Poured jet black. Super rich toasty malt and coffee taste. Nice bitter on the back. Very indicative of the style, reminded me of Guinness in a way.

On draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and hops. Full body and very rich. Very nice finish. One of my favorite porters available in Anchorage.

SHIG (4964) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - JUL 2, 2012
Draft: Poured a deep brown with blackened center and reddish orange tint to the edges. The head was off white to tan color. Aroma was nice chocolate and light coffee. Taste is dark chocolate with soft coffee and roasted malts that is robust at first but drinks rather smooth. I’m sure I could see myself drinking this all day and not worrying with the lower abv.

aracauna (3683) - Georgia, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Very dark, almost black. Big roasty aroma, coffee and chocolate. Slightly rich on the tongue, but not really sweet. Slightly thin body. Makes for a great dessert beer.

nbutler11 (1305) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUN 22, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Pours a roasted coffee color with a trim beige head. Smells and tastes of caramel, toasted malts, and faint hops. Good stuff.

savnac (2656) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JUN 12, 2012
Growler from LaBodega. Dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate roasted coffee and caramel. Flavor is rich semi-sweet chocolate, roasty bitterness with no alcohol taste. Medium to full body with a smooth mouth feel. This is a solid porter, lots of chocolate, some roast and goes down easy.

3.7
nearbeer (5608) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 17, 2011
Draft at the pub. Nice nose of coffee, dry cocoa, and caramel. Flavor is mocha, graham cracker, ash and caramel. Medium body is soft, smoothly carbonated, and balanced.

BrewDad (5667) - Olympia, Washington, USA - APR 2, 2012
Dark brown in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice roast and light chocolate aroma. Good flavor with a coffee chocolate balance and decent hops backing. Very tasty brew.
