On draft @ Whole Foods Mayo. Big creamy head. Decent nose of sweet alcohol, malt, roast. Flavors mostly sweet, soy sauce, nutty. Thin mouthfeel. Meh.

Draft @ Sleepy Dog, listed as Bourbon Barrel Porter 8.4%. Deep brown with a creamy light tan head. Aroma of fruity whiskey, oak, chocolate and burnt coffee. Flavor is alcohol, dry oak, slightly buttery with some chocolate and coffee. Medium body with a soft mouth feel. This one is just ok, really fruity and boozy and not really balanced.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2012 On-tap @ brewery yesterday evening (same as my most recent SD reviews). Pours a darkened brown, fined tuned whitish ring that stays upright for four seconds then descends and disappears. Smells of Fortuna cigarette smoke, candied apples, lactose, fish oil, graham cracker and white peppercorn. Tastes of char, candi sugar, tin and molasses. Doesn’t seem to have very much pronounced oaken textures in the finish product, but it ends with a slightly woody note. Much more drinkable than their Wet Nose.

on tap 7/29/10. darker than usual porter brown color with a small off white head. tons of florals and banana in the aroma... mixed with oak, roast and faint chocolate. the banana carries over into the flavor not as fruit but as a strange starchiness. toss in wet wood, char, brown sugar and a spiciness on the finish to fill in the gaps. i’m not sure that i get much if any defined bourbon (with the exception of the sugar and spice but that could be the base beer, huh?). anyway, the base beer was spot on, this is a bit of a disappointment. 5/4/5/3/13/3.0

Clear brown pour with a foamy head. Roasted malt and bourbon in the aroma. Sweet roasty flavor with just a hint of bourbon. Alright.

Brown pour, small head. Nutty, bourbon, roasty aroma. Flavor has some roasted nuts, chcolate, coffee, light bourbon. Not bad, not amazing.
