(Bottle 50 cl) Dark amber colour (but not quite as dark as a winter night, as the label promises), with a small dense head. Lovely aroma, almost perfumy. Typical Slottskällans spiciness - perhaps a wee touch of cardamom. Slightly sweet, but not sticky in any way. Discreet bitter finish. A very wellmade and different Christmas beer. 170302 JorisPPattyn (10072) - BELGIUM - APR 2, 2005
Dark red-brown colour; yellow head reduced to 1/2 cm. Caramel, laurel, grapes, chocolate in the nose. Chocolate, some caramel, bog myrtle, pine, incense flavours, finishing bitterish-hoppy. Bit watery MF and texture. Nice, just a bit thinnish; fine aroma’s. Jukkabro (3484) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 15, 2005
Dark red and brown colored, beige head vanished quickly. Sweet, strongly herbal aroma, not very common aroma. Surprisingly high carbonation, thin to medium body. Flavor starts with herbal tones, ends with dry mouthfeel and some lasting herbs and sweetness. Not very dimensional aroma and flavor. Hansen (8615) - Assentoft, DENMARK - DEC 26, 2004
I like it. Brown color, medium head. Fine malty flavor, perhaps a little smoke?? A little thin, but a nice christmasbrew. Eructoblaster (4370) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 21, 2004
Bottle - 500ml. Dark copper body topped with a diminishing eff-white head. Strong malty aroma with brown sugar, molasses, and fruity notes. Taste is surprisingly mild. Alcohol is well hidden, and hoppy/malty flavors are very well balanced. Fair bitter finish. Without being impressive, this is a nice beer.

Bottled: Amber colored. Brownish small head. Aroma is sweet, malty and fruity. Light spiced, mild liqourice and some other burnt notes. Is thin bodied and ends on a slightly sweet and spiced note. Very smooth and mild christmasbrew. Easy to drink. bark (255) - Linköping, SWEDEN - DEC 9, 2004
Bottle. The colour is deep ruby red with a tint of rust red. The pale beige,
finger thick foam makes a fizzing sound when poured.sayravai (4711) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 26, 2004
The smell is somewhat musty. There are some burned notes of sweet
yeast, dark bread and coffee.
The carbonation is fresh and a bit sticky with small bubbles.
The taste is loaded with dry malt, a powerful but passing bitterness
and a rather weak body. There are traces of some spices. The
aftertaste is short with some bitterness and a little odd taste of
I found the beer a little flat; I remember it having a lot more
flavours from previous years.
During the brewing of this ale, very small amounts of ginger,
cinnamon, oranges and cloves are added (those are traditional Swedish
Christmas spices). The other ingredients are: Pilsener, dark caramel
and chocolate malt, the hops are East Kent Golding and Hersbrucker.
Yeast: Worthington Whiteshield.
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2008 (Draught) Clear, dark amber color with a medium, tight and lacy head. Quite dry and chalky aroma at first, slightly cardboardy-vegetably, but later also caramely sweet with some scotch ale character. Sweetish, nutty-oaky, moderately hoppy flavor with caramely malt. Medium to full-bodied, smooth but fizzy carbonated palate. Somewhat tasty and spicy ale with scotch ale character. Niiiice ... I like! MiP (15972) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - NOV 19, 2004
