A refreshingly tart and crisp hefeweizen brewed with local MA wildflower honey, orange peel and coriander, and fermented with the juice from over 1,000 blood oranges. It’s a cloudy, yet effervescent beer, with lingering banana and citrus notes balanced against a healthy wheat backbone and hoppy finish from Mt. Hood and Crystal hops.

bottle thanks to Alex... this is a brew that needs quite a bit of work, tasted much older that the bottle date of 11 2011, I get mostly coriander a bit of orange, very dry especially for one that is supposed to be refreshing, wouldn’t have again

Blind tasted with 4 other wheat ales. Beers were: 1. Leavenworth Blackbird Island Hopfenweizen, 2. AmberWeiss Wheat Beer, 3. Robert Doms Belgiyskiy, 4. Obolon Bile (White) , 5. Slumbrew Happy Sol. 650ml bottle. Amber pour. Aroma is vinegary. Flavor is venegar and bland paper.

Post tasting thoughts:
a 1.99 buy, I am assuming this is old because it was cheap and I don’t really see this brand around anymore.

16oz can. Pours a blood colored orange. Tasted better than expected but still not really my thing. Closer to a pale ale with juice added than to a wheat beer. The blood orange flavor actually worked well with this. It was OK.

Can says brewed at Mercury Brewing( which now looks like Ipswitch Ale Brewing). Guess they contract brew their canned offerings?? Bit of a lactic sour aroma with the citrus wheat beer backing. Nice. Taste is almost a dirty citrus with a weak palate and a slight sourness to the finish. Nice blood orange and some nice spices but also has a dirty taste to it. Looks like cloudy apple cider. Wasn’t impressed at first but has gotten a bit better as I drank more, but still not a favorite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Grassy / wheat nose with citrus (orange) and spice. Pours dark, cloudy golden with thin white foam. Initially sweet taste of malts and oranges. Spices (coriander) appear toward the middle and carry to the sour finish. Pleasantly complex and rich set of flavors that begin with a sense of wheat beer but recalling a saison yeasty sourness. Medium fizziness and light bodied.

Draught. That’s a nasty beer! Ok, I don’t like blood orange but this is just poor. Not much hefe here either, taste like an APA.

Draft at Yard House. Pours orange gold with an off white head. Aroma is orange, lemon, wheat, pepper. Flavor reminds me of Picon Biere. Slightly bitter orange over mild wheat.

Slumbrew Happy Sol has a thin, fizzy, quickly-dissipating head, no lacing, a murky (especially so, after the bottom caked contents are loosened and poured in), orange appearance. The aroma is odd, but it (and, the flavor) does improve as the beer settles out. I picked up honey, aged dankness, red soil, bread crust, and possibly some juice. Taste is of sweetness, that odd oldness, honey, bread crust, malt, and low bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Slumbrew Happy Sol finishes wet and juice like. Reminds me of a mimosa. RJT

Super orange aroma with some banana. Hazy amber body with a minimal head retention. Pronounced orange taste with a soft yeast background. Soft sourness with a citrus tang on the tongue. Leaves a tart coriander sourness on the tongue. Pleasant and sweet to experience.

Sampled at Mass Brewers Fest ’14. Poured a hazy golden orange with bubbly white head. Wheat/clove aroma with the addition of orange peel. A lot of citrus in the flavor from the orange and lemon peel as well as the typical wheat and spice. Interesting mixture. Medium to light in body with a tartness on the tongue.
