Bottle share at the Rainbow IPA mini event at the King William IV. Opaque black - brown beer. Good pale tan head. Light airy palate, semi dry. Fine carbonation. Just a light touch of the dark malt but with good dark chocolate. Light citrus and ripe orange. Crispy finish. Decent.
Bottle shared at King William IV - London. Pours deep brown with a moderate, creamy tan cap. Nose holds a good dose of roasted malts with burnt pine and grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor, well and roasty, with grapefruit, dirt, rind. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Somewhat resinous to finish with cocoa roast, more grapefruit, toasted pine. Solid. 22oz bottle. Large brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some bittersweet chocolate, roast, light pine. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, caramel, roast, some pineapple, light bittersweet chocolate that’s more pronounced in the finish. Medium body, light resin, quite drinkable for the ABV. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - APR 23, 2013

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a nice foamy brown head that had nice retention. The nose is bright citrusy hops with a heavy chocolate and roasty malt base. The flavor is really well balanced between the hops and the Porter flavors. Strong chocolate malt base that has a little roastiness on the finish. Medium bodied with a sturdy firm mouthfeel and fizzy soft carbonation. Really nice hoppy porter. obguthr (6349) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - MAY 4, 2014
Coffee, licorice, and pine nose. Mahogany, medium creamy tan head. Cola at the beginning but pine and grapefruit at midpalate A surge of instant coffee in an enduring finish. Soil present. Medium body, creamy. What a lovely earthy black IPA. Probably heavier than is needed for the style, but the hops are certainly there in good numbers. Very nice. jgb9348 (6250) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - SEP 12, 2013
Deep dark brown coloured body with a single centimetre tall tan head with some violet tints at the bottom. Aroma of roasted malt, fresh hops, grapes, oak, flowers, hay, yeast and a bit more roasted malt - nice. Medium-bodied; Assertive fresh hop flavour with a good resin and piney kick, all with some roasted malt, but not too strong, flavours coming through. Aftertaste shows a little earthiness with some alcohol flavours, fresh hops, caramel, oak and dryness and a hint of grapes. Overall, a nice beer with a relatively good complexity and a strong sweet and bitter finish. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 06-July-2013 for US$5.84 sampled at home in Washington on 12-September-2013. thornecb (5911) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Pours black into a shaker. Mocha conglomerate head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing to coat surface. Dark chocolate and loamy garden aromas. Creamy dark chocolate upfront turning to dank resin and espresso in the lasting finish. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Pours pretty thick and dark with a decent creamy cocoa colored head. The aroma is nice too, some black licorice roasted malts and hops. Flavor brings a very well blended hop and roasted malt profile with no bite and satisfying creamy body.
