Inspired by a less known German brewing style called dampfbier – an all barley malt bill fermented with wheat beer yeast – we found a delicious new expression for our Happy Sol yeast. This beer pours a deep red color with unique malty flavors from roasted barley, Munich, pilsen and caramel malts. A subtle hop spice is derived from German Perle and Hallertauer hops.

Draught @ Noho Brewfest: This one pours a clear, dark amber color. There was very little heads on it. It has a milder nose. Malty, toasty, hint of roast and biscuit. The taste is good. Malts, roastiness, hint of dryness in finish. Maybe some nuttiness. Nice.

22oz bottle. Pours dark mahogany with an off white head. A bit off putting at first by the end of the glass I was enjoying it more. Dark fruits and sweet caramel with an overall sourness that took a bit to get used to but then started to grow on me.

Currant and raisin nose, slightly like mincemeat, with hints of walnut. Chestnut colored, medium yellow head. Tart and light bodied. Crabapple, tea, and dried leaves flavor, some mustiness. Quaffable and fruity, but not for me.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a hazy brown color with a small off white head. The nose has some caramel and spice to it with a weird vegetal note. The flavor has a sour off note with spice and overcooked vegetables. A weird fish scale flavor comes out as it warms. This brew is awful. Total drain pour.

I pour this into my stange and a nice copper body appears along with a half inch white foamy head that lasts for a good minute. The body is too cloudy for any carbonation to be seen rising. Some spotty foamy lacing speckles the glass here and there. The smell has banana up front with some light spice and malts in the background. The taste is pretty much the same. The palate is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. Its mostly smooth and drinkable. Overall, good but unsure if I would come back to this.

Draft in a pint. Deep brown color, tiny soapy head with retention. Nose is layered malt. Flavor is again a hearty backbone of malt with a different almost fruit note toward the finish. I also go to say, I don’t pick up any hops what-so-ever. The malt gives off nuts and a hint of smoke as well. Sticky texture. The only thing keeping this from being REALLY nice is the lack of any hops. Decent depth of malt. Still tasty and well worth a try.

Bottle listed as "Slumbrew Rising Sun". A deep clear amber brew. Light tan head that goes to lacing. Good carbonation. Malty-tart-fruit aromas. Flavor has a nice malty start, but this one has a unique fruit-tart-bitterness, compared to the true altbier style. Very drinkable and refreshing. Lingering bready-bitter-fruit-malt finish. Clean finish. Not bad at all.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha head pancakes as it recedes to coat surface. Sweet caramel and toffee aromas. Soft with candy corn and roasted nuts upfront turning to sour tropical fruit before a lasting roasted malt finish.
