dark copper with an offwhite head. smell is sweet malt, quite subdued. taste is leafy hops, a rounded maltiness, light caramel character. palate is smooth and full bodied relative to the low alcohol. subdued but quite good and fits in well as an occasional sessioner.

Draft as Smithwick's Red Ale @ Ha'penny Bridge Inn, Dublin. Red/brown with a small white Head. Mild aroma of caramel and biscuit. Taste is mostly caramel with a bit of metal, biscuit and sweet malts. Kind of fruity as well. Finish shows some light hops. Low to medium carbonation. Watery. Ok I guess if you just want to pound a couple of pints.

Great tasting. Not sure what else I could ask for from this ale. Good stuff. Reasonably priced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. As Smithwick's Red. Pours clear bright amber brown with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, caramel, bread and light fruit. Medium to heavy sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Finish is sweet and malty. So so.
