poured at the 14th annual CO Brewers’ Rendezvous. deep brown with garnet highlights and a thin tan head that quickly faded. thick. lots of dark fruit in the background, as well as some smoke and a nice nutty presence. plenty of toffee and caramel with some roast and mild, sweet coffee. a good one.

on tap 7/19/10 in montrose. clear auburn/dark brown with an off white head which drips a lot. it smells like a rich, sweet, smokey mix of caramel and chocolate creme candies. combined with citrus and grass it tastes the same... nice and malty with lingering smoke and sourness. medium bodied. crisp though rich. highly quaffable. 7/4/7/3/15/3.6

Tap. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, strong coffee and molasses, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with cola, smoke, raisin and boiled root vegetables in the background. Head is small, bubbly, white with almost no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown with a deep red tint. Flavor starts moderately sweet, and has a moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter finish. Palate is medium to full, creamy almost syrupy in texture, has a soft carbonation and finishes sticky yet slightly dry. A very good, well rounded Scottish Ale.

Dark porter with an initially bitter taste, and a nutty aftertaste. Really great beer.

Draft at the brewpub during Telluride Blue and Brews Weekend 2006: Dark, almost brown/red. Big and sugary malt with a hint of smokiness but a sweet swirly finish.

Deep burgundy with a yellowish-tan head on my palette. Very smooth and creamy on my palate ... kind of chewy, even. Malts were nice, with roast, peat, chocolate and toast. Pinch of smoke, too. The aforementioned drifted into the aroma. Hops were in the background, nicely. Pretty good beer.
