COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. 2008 22oz bomber. Pours a nice frothy head with decent lacing. Much darker than I was initially thinking. Deep aromas and flavours of raisins, bittersweet chocolate, candied fruit. A bit of coffee and a vinous character. A little bit of brewers licorice on the back end. Good balance between the hop profile and malt backbone. Good viscosity which gave a nice sensation for the mouthfeel. Very nice representation of a baltic porter and another solid offering by Smuttynose.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours inky black with a thin tan head. Extremely smooth mouth feel. Lovely mildly sweet chocolate, roasty malt, coffee aromas, some raspberry and cherry. Similar flavours. Delightful.

Beautiful notes of coca, roasted and blueberries, black with a good brown head, medium/full body, not too carbonated, again strong notes of cocoa, blueberries with a light and pleasant warming final...simple and cheap but not everyday you can drink a beer like this.

Bottle - decants jet black, defies light getting through the glass - smallish tan cap forms surface lace. Aroma of dried fig-dates, roasted grain char and whispers of sweet burnt treacle. Medium- heavy bodied, slick mouthfeel. Flavor has firm Baltic Porter characteristics - roasty, plenty of roast grain body, dried dark fruit tones, some smoke, licorice notes, burnt treacle...long wet finish dries up a bit with some bittering and roast astringency - a very decent American dry Baltic - nice for sipping or pairing up with some shell fish.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Chocolately, minimally roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of plum, raisin, a touch of coffee, some liquorice. Taste is roasty dark malty, chocolately, sweet-ish hints of caramel, burnt caramel, some coffee, liquorice, alcohol-soaked dark fruit; full body, oily texture, sticky palate.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Kvadrat, enjoyed at Gunnarsbu. Pours black with a big creamy tan head. Aroma of creamy dark malts, dark fruits, cellar and chocolate. Taste is soft creamy malts, distinct notes of dark fruits, with liquorice at the finish, good porter this one

Fukito (1059) - Santiago, CHILE - APR 27, 2017
Clear but very dark almost brown and an off white creamy head. Aroma is molasses with some raisins and slight tobacco notes. Flavor is same dark fruits, with cake, a little bit of toffee and a gentle bittersweet finish. Just a little bit boozy, but overall very smooth and creamy.
