Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-chestnut color with a large foamy orange-beige head. The aroma had a whole lot going on, starting sweet and nutty and possessing notes of ripe cherries, port, wood, and cocoa. The flavor was equally complex with a tart and tangy base with solid notes of black cherry, molasses, sugar, wood, port wine, pineapple and cocoa. Amazingly complex. The finish was long nutty cherry and cocoa. Full bodied. Amazing. amp811 (38) - Charleston, South Carolina, USA - JUL 15, 2009
The raisins are a huge part of this beer’s taste, but they’re not the only taste that’s there. A really big beer that will take you for a ride on the delicious train. Anyone a fan of fruity notes in a Belgian style beer should pick this one up. SanfordBrewer (1574) - Sanford, Florida, USA - JUL 7, 2010
opaque brown. lots of malt sweetness, dark fruit, and alcohol warmth. balanced and quite pleasing. Pinky77 (256) - - NOV 2, 2016
22oz bomber from Shaw’s. Pours a translucent dark copper body with a thin film of quickly dissipating tan head. Raisin, date, nut, brown sugar, with a touch of pith and citrus in the aroma. Raisin, date, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, toffee and coffee toward the finish. Medium in body with ample carbonation. Very drinkable for the style, abv, and complexity. A very good quad, tasty, balanced, complex, and drinkable for the style. Another slam-dunk from Smuttynose!

Aroma of caramel, and spicy fruit. A beautiful beer that is dark red and glows in the light with a caramel brown foamy head.
A very strong beer that is sweet possessing characteristics of rum and dark fruit and strong alcohol.
A really intense beer that is a bit syrupy but incredibly decadent. mike5326 (1745) - virginia beach, Virginia, USA - OCT 2, 2013
Poured from a bottle. Dark orange color, medium lived nice frothy off white head. Sweet candy malt smell. Full body with a sweet flavor that merges great with the alcohol level and a incredibly smooth finish. dzzz333 (35) - Elkton, Maryland, USA - FEB 20, 2009

SHOUT OUT 2 GABE for introducing me to the QUADS..HOLLA. ericnixon (746) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 24, 2009
Nice reddish brown color with a good raisin-y aroma. It feels thick in the mouth with a big raisin flavor that sits on your tongue and hangs out for a long while. Good! generallee08 (772) - New York, USA - JUL 11, 2014
Its body has a deep warm reddish color with a small light tan head on top. This slowly fades to thick ring with a wispy thin island of foam in the middle. This makes some slick lacing on the glass. There are lots of fruity and yeasty notes that offer hints of raison, dried apricot, caramelized malt and alcohol. Its big full body has full smooth texture with lots of dark dried fruit notes, apricot, musty and bready yeast as well as dark caramelized almost chocolaty malts. There is an overall sweetness like Belgian sugar with a low hop presence.
