COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUs, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thats not easy to find. We think theyll be quite pleased.

Color of apple juice, aroma of sweet hops flowers. Bittersweet hop flavor, almost floral. Bitterness comes on strong at the end.

Poured in a pint glass with a hazy golden colour with creamy white head. Scents of citrus mostly grapefruit that is really strong. Good lacing. Flavor: citrus hop presence with grapefruit, aftertaste of slight spice and full hop bitterness.

very cloudy when poured. not much head (but my girlfriend poured it). Odd specks floating in it (what is that?). theres more bitterness than the aroma would lead you to believe. light body. nice ipa.

Thanks to 46er3498 for this bottle. Clear amber in color with big dirty white head. Citrus hoppy aroma. Flavor is the same, but the finish is a nice balance with the malt. Not as hoppy as the nose might lead one to think.

(Bottle) Pours hazy amber with floaters. Hoppy citrus fruit aroma with grapefruit, orange peel, lemon and lime. The maltiness is mostly wet grain like with some sweeter hints. The flavour is spicy and hoppy, mostly citrus with grapefruit up front. Full bitterness. Dry finish. Ok malty backbone but maybe just a tiny bit to thin bodied to be perfect.

Not bad. I must preface this rating with a disclosure of my dislike of IPAs. Smells heavily of grapefruit (at best), and quite a bitter taste. Not sure what all the fuss is about this beer -- its good and balanced for an IPA but by no means at the level of Dogfish Head. The IPA craze still eludes me.

I gave the aroma a 2. I kid you not that this smellied like a toliet sitting in the sun. Not sure if it was bad batch or what, but good lord it stunk. Getting past that it was quite tasty, decent amount of hop bit, nice aftertaste. But good lord, that smell, yar. Still have 4 more to drink, maybe the smell will subside, if not for the stink, i would have been a big fan!
