COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Just enough bitter to know this is an American ipa. But not too much. No aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bill Becker (1321) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 17, 2017
From Aug 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle a cloudy reddish gold with a fairly large head of foam that shrunk quickly leaving a solid layer for most of the session and then.. diminished some more until just a very fine layer remained. The smell is quite hoppy with notes of citrus like grapefruit and lemon and there's a bit of malty sweetness in the nose as well. The taste is actually a bit sweeter than I expected. The hops are definitely in control with grapefruit and lemon and a bit of grass but the malt presence kind of eases the bitter tones until the finish when it becomes quite bitter and very refreshing. Good stuff! Bottom line: A very good example of an American IPA. Thanks go out to jwc215 for including this one in our trade!

Pours a pale golden with strong white head. A floral hop aroma. Light bodied with a big flora and melon hop character. Notes: bottle at Vino Volo, Logan Airport Sep '17

Musty oat malts with a syrupy sweet hop profile. Like the shoals pale ale, but slightly stronger.

Can = pours a lightly hazed gold with a 1 finger white cap that reduces but lasts - aroma is grapefruit-floral-piney with a decent sweet malt underpinning flavor follows aroma - clean finish, not overly hoppy but a session IP decent but not distinct.

Canmoore (494) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 21, 2017
Pours a semi cloudy golden colour, with a decent sized foamy head. Aroma has notes of biscuits, citrus, and resin. Tasting notes include passionfruit, grapefruit, pine, and some biscuit. Slightly dry, bitter finish to this decent IPA.

Rich honeyed aromas layered wth tropical fruit and burnt sugar. Crisp and creamy with a touch of pine on the pallet.

12floz bottle purchased at the per unit equivalent price of $1.50, BBD 08.24.2017, pint glass. Appears pale gold body with a slight haze, and has small layer of head. Tropical fruit aroma with evergreen, translates to what is expected a medium-full bodied beer with hop bitterness. Fruity and metallic (not in a bad way) middle-of-the-road American IPA.

Listigovers (1278) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 16, 2017
Golden and hazy pour. Smells of resin and forest. Taste is well balanced resin and hop bitterness, a lot of dry malts. Medium bodied, a big classic IPA, very enjoyable.

Alpha10 (814) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 5, 2017
2017/04/05 - Pours a clear, medium gold colour with a soapy, white head slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruits, light caramel with lightly spicy and floral hops. Taste is caramel, resin, tropical and citrus fruits with floral and herbal hops. Mouthfeel is medium with moderate carbonation and a dry, lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. A little more malt forward than I had expected, but good nonetheless. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
