UPDATED: NOV 4, 2010 Rerate! Purchased $8.99 from Julio’s 10/29/10--they had many cases left. Clear medium dark brown with a one finger medium beige head, fair retention. Bourbon caramel nose with some light cherry tang following as well as a little tobacco. Flavor is much the same with some spicy rye added. It’s very much barrel forward, light to moderate sweetness, less tobacco. Finishes semi-dry with low bitterness peaking at a 3, light alcohol presence. Moderate carbonation with a full body. Not too bad. New rating 7-4-7-4-13--3.5. Old rating follows. 22oz, bottle, thanks to Terry for sharing. Clear ruby brown with a couple finger beige head good retention. Lots o bourbon up front with plenty of spicy rye bourbony notes, some sweet caramel. . Flavor has tons of barrel influence, maybe a bit overdone, a little vanilla-y. Bitterness peaked at a 4, dry finish. Not bad, but too much barrel. 8-4-7-3-13--3.5 wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - JUN 21, 2010

Pretty excited for this; picked up a bottle at Julio’s (obviously). Pours a dark mahogany brown with reddish tints and a 1 finger dark ivory colored head that perks up absolutely beautifully. Aroma is very nice; lots of sweet vanilla and black cherry, lactic sugars, bourbon, wood, along with really excellent herbal notes of rye and dill. Flavor is marvelous-- more fantastic bourbon barrel notes with wood, smoke, and sweet vanilla, and more of that rye and dill. The booze comes through near the finish and contributes the perfect amount of sharpness on the tongue, but it fades to a beautifully smooth finish. The mouthfeel on the whole is fairly full bodied, with a really nice balance between the sweet aged malt characteristics and the unique herbal notes. Excellent brew. deyholla (11486) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 20, 2010
Bottle shared by Sean at the 2010 Summer Solstice. Poured a cloudy amber brown with an off-white head that dissipated quickly to the edge. Aroma had notes of sweet bread, caramel and rye. Flavor was similar with the rye being more of an undertone and caramel being to more present note. SuIIy (1983) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUN 5, 2010
Bomber. Pours a redish brown color with a big foamy off white head. Head remains about 1 finger tall throughout the session, amazing retention. Loads of bubbles stream upwards. Lacing is thickly coated on the glass. Nose is heavy vanilla, bourbon and oak notes. A nice herb noted is present as well. Palate is full, thick, chewy with a light tongue tingle, feels clean but a light coating is present. Flavors of bourbon, vanilla, light caramel and dill pickles, def feels like I just ate a pickle, and not in a bad way.

22 oz bottle, Pour dark brown with some red highlights and a nice off white head. Moderate lacing in my De Dolle tulip. Aroma is amazing. Some herbs, bourbon, fresh rye bread, caramel and a hint of vanilla. Full bodied for a rye ale with just the right amount of carbonation. Smooth and very well balanced. Amazing beer. Sample at Julio’s Spring Beer Fest (disclaimer - memory somewhat blurred after perhaps a few too many samples) One of the better bourbon barrel ales I have tasted.
