marcus (10326) - Sacramento, California, USA - JAN 25, 2016
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a transient fizzy head and a strong rye whiskey aroma. There is a full-bodied treacle and anise flavor with lots of tasty whiskey. This 2010 beer has aged very nicely.

Dog Days of Summer Gathering, thanks growler. copper,t an. aroma, woot woot, bourbon goodness, loads of caramel, malty, rye and butterscotch/vanilla and oak wood. flavors, caramel malts, barrel is definitely more present here than anticipated in the nose, rye is mild adding just enough thickness to the palate and mild spices. A nice beer, good use of the Buffalo Trace that at times seems to overtake most of the other elements of this beer.

arminjewell (9688) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - OCT 11, 2010
Bottle, huge thanks to Skyview. Hazy reddish brown pour, with thin, dissipating white head. Aroma has big bourbon, whiskey, rye and a touch of booze. Taste up front is sweet bourbon and vanilla, leading into the rye whiskey and spice, with a slightly sweet and boozy finish. Very complex and good beer.

Deep amber pour and a thin white head. The nose is peppery and a bit sharp. A bit of unusual woody character. The palate has a whole lot of rye character. A touch of peppery flavour and a spicy sweetness. Lingering chewy palate and a long earthy/spicy finish. Decent but it doesn’t really come together like it could.

nimbleprop (8450) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 12, 2010
22oz bottle pours a transparent, copper amber with a thin, creamy beige head. Smells like cherries, vanilla, wood pulp, butterscotch. Flavor is caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, wood, malts. Finish is a touch hot and a touch astringent.

Bottle. Hazy deep amber pour with a medium off white head. The aroma is sweet malty and light hoppy with notes of sweet fruit, bourbon and caramel. The flavour is sweet toasted malt, tobacco, bourbon, hops, caramel, dark fruit and raisins. Sweet fruity finish. Very nice.

jredmond (8333) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 15, 2013
Bottle brought to Vinny’s January 2013 tasting. Pours a deep hazy reddish amber body with no head or lacing. Aroma is sweet molasses, bourbon, maple syrup and faint dark fruits. Mouthfeel is slightly boozy, with ntoes of maple, fruit malts, molasses, light vanilla, rye, and oak barrel. This beer reminded me very much of founder Backwoods bastard and Better Half. Nice.

vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - AUG 12, 2011
Bottle at a tasting. Reddish brown pour with some light tan head. Aroma full of spice, bourbon, some sweet caramel and of course rye, alcoholic tones apparent. Flavor has some sweeter tones, vanilla and caramel, bourbon, spice and rye tones.

PhillyCraft (7351) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2013
Bottle shared by James with some heads in early Jan. Poured a hazy amber brown shade with creamy medium sized head and lacing. Aromas of rich bourbon, rye barrel, cocoa, vanilla bean, dark fruit and smooth malts. Taste is much of the same with a layered toffee and oak flavor that lingers for a while. Medium to fuller bodied. A little hot for 8percent but it didn’t matter with all the great flavors coming through.
