Bottle at a tasting. Reddish brown pour with some light tan head. Aroma full of spice, bourbon, some sweet caramel and of course rye, alcoholic tones apparent. Flavor has some sweeter tones, vanilla and caramel, bourbon, spice and rye tones. kramer (6905) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 11, 2010
22 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber body with a small wispy beige head. Nice earthy and spicy rye nose with some complementary hops over a slightly sweet caramel and bourbon base. The flavor is very spicy with a hefty bourbon laced finish bringing on some vanilla and alcohol. I don’t especially dig the barrel character of this one, seems to be a bit overdone. Mouthfeel is fizzy and lively, helping cut the heavy body a little bit. Not bad, but a touch too boozy and alcoholic. egajdzis (6730) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 2, 2010
Red brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, rye malt, caramel malts, nuts, and alcohol. Taste of nuts, rye, burnt malts, vanilla, and bourbony alcohol in the finish. blutt59 (6579) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 31, 2010
bottle, thanks to exiled, pours golden amber color with a great creamy toffee, vanilla aroma, flavor of rye whiskey, toffee caramel, warm silky smooth finish BBB63 (6567) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - SEP 12, 2010
Bottle provided by Shawn at our "little" tasting: Maple hued with a creamy head and left very good lace upon the glass. The aroma has a distinct cotton candy and bubblegum character more than the expected vanilla, flowery and rye tones, some alcohol brashness along with crystal and doughy malts. Starts quite sweet with a sugary and malty overtone supported by dark and citric fruits, light bourbon and earthy yeast. The rye character seems a bit muted by all that sweetness but does come about as it warms, a minty and anise like twang towards the finish. While the mouth feel is a tad thin and soft, there is still a sticky and oily quality that more than makes up for that. A bit unique and interesting but methinks it may have spend a bit too much time in the regular bourbon barrels and not enough time in the rye whiskey barrel. As much as I love Rye, I found both Rye beers tonight sort of disappointing. That said, it would be something I would try again on a fresher palate.

Nice brew - god mix of rye flavors, mixed with caramel and molasses - in fact it may drift a little towards being too sweet. Some boozy notes as it warms. Enjoyable beer. Sampled at 2010 pre-Brewer’s Jam tasting. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - DEC 2, 2010
Amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Light sour cherry aroma with a hint of malt. Sweet malt, cherry, with a light sour finish. Medium bodied and fizzy. JK (6294) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - MAR 12, 2011
There is some sour rye in the flavor. Brown sugar and bourbon, which makes this hot on the palate, and also a fairly thick beer. Very little carbonation. The bourbon works about as well as bourbon can work in a beer. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - DEC 21, 2010
Citrusy spicy rye nose, some bourbon vanilla, soft alcohol. Really pleasant bourbon actually. Nice nose! Copper pour, well filtered, nice head/lace. Nice bourbon barrel throughout, vanilla, rye, some citrus here and there. Nice bodied, creamy. Balanced.
