Pours a dark ruby red. A little cloudy, but it is a rye beer after all. Good luck filtering those bright. Small light tan head that stays throughout the entire session.
Smells of bourbon. Maybe a hint of vanilla and a slight woodiness. Something sweet in there as well.
Bourbon. Right up front and in the back of every sip. Slight sweetness. No rye whatsoever. A little bit sour from the wood I suppose. A little hops, but barely there.
Coats the mouth with a bourbon taste that sticks with you the whole time you are drinking this. Bit of residual sweetness left on the lips making them sticky. Like maybe I smeared a lollipop all over my mouth.
Surprisingly drinkable in spite of the bourbon taste. The taste is all that is there though. So unlike other beers that age in bourbon barrels that crank up their ABV for some reason, making it undrinkable, this one is on the other spectrum; very drinkable. Although I might limit myself to a couple in a given night.
Excellent beer that should be available at more places. Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 10, 2010
Cloudy copper with a small off white head. Some cinnamon, clove and a touch of nutmeg. Faint rye notes with light herbal hops. Lingering mouth feel. ThirstyBird (2953) - Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2013

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2010 Rerate! Purchased $8.99 from Julio’s 10/29/10--they had many cases left. Clear medium dark brown with a one finger medium beige head, fair retention. Bourbon caramel nose with some light cherry tang following as well as a little tobacco. Flavor is much the same with some spicy rye added. It’s very much barrel forward, light to moderate sweetness, less tobacco. Finishes semi-dry with low bitterness peaking at a 3, light alcohol presence. Moderate carbonation with a full body. Not too bad. New rating 7-4-7-4-13--3.5. Old rating follows. 22oz, bottle, thanks to Terry for sharing. Clear ruby brown with a couple finger beige head good retention. Lots o bourbon up front with plenty of spicy rye bourbony notes, some sweet caramel. . Flavor has tons of barrel influence, maybe a bit overdone, a little vanilla-y. Bitterness peaked at a 4, dry finish. Not bad, but too much barrel. 8-4-7-3-13--3.5

Tasted on 11/12/11 from a 650mL bomber bottle obtained in a trade. Pours opaque, dark brown/amber with a thick, off-white head that leaves uneven lace that retains very well. The nose is caramel malt. toffee, a touch of cinnamon, vanilla, and just a bit of roasted bitterness. The flavor is lightly sweet with toffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla oak, and touches of cinnamon, coconut, some roasted bitterness. The body is full and oily with average but stinging carbonation, and a long oaky vanilla and caramel finish. jimhilt (2611) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 27, 2011
Pours two-finger light tan head that fades slowly and leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color, hints of yeast. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Bourbon nose, and strong bourbon flavor, just hints of rye. One could imagine a lot higher ABV than 7.7%. $8.99 for a 22 oz bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma. piscator34 (2541) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - OCT 12, 2010
Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Ruby in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of orchard fruit, bourbon barrel, dark caramel, and booze. Heavy on the booze and barrel in the mouth, but with some nice spicy rye and caramel notes coming through in the background. Somewhat of a slick mouthfeel. Seems way boozier and heavier than it actually is. Some good elements here, but a bit too out of balance to really come together. BDR (2534) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 28, 2010
Thanks to Skyview. Bourbon aroma. Fresh, almost green vanilla. The flavor is very rich dominated by bourbon. Silky vanilla finish tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - OCT 15, 2010
2010 pre-Brewer’s Jam tasting. Pours red-orange with beige head. Aroma is very sweet with some hints of char and honey, maybe some sage. Flavor is also very sweet with maple and caramel, little bit of spice, distant vegetal hint. I can detect some spice in the finish and aftertaste. Ok, but too sweet.
