Bottle share thanks Skyview. Pour was caramel in color and was hazy. Aroma boozy dried fruit with roasted malt. Taste bourbon sweetness and caramel. Palate slick and sticky with a dry finish. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 21, 2010
Pretty excited for this; picked up a bottle at Julio’s (obviously). Pours a dark mahogany brown with reddish tints and a 1 finger dark ivory colored head that perks up absolutely beautifully. Aroma is very nice; lots of sweet vanilla and black cherry, lactic sugars, bourbon, wood, along with really excellent herbal notes of rye and dill. Flavor is marvelous-- more fantastic bourbon barrel notes with wood, smoke, and sweet vanilla, and more of that rye and dill. The booze comes through near the finish and contributes the perfect amount of sharpness on the tongue, but it fades to a beautifully smooth finish. The mouthfeel on the whole is fairly full bodied, with a really nice balance between the sweet aged malt characteristics and the unique herbal notes. Excellent brew. craftbeerdesign (2254) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - AUG 1, 2010
tasting on 7/30/10. deep red pour with a 1/4" white head. light bourbon nose with dark fruit notes. medium to big body with sweet malts and dark fruit. some dark cherry coming through the most. more of the same on the finish. overall a tasty beer, but the barrels didn’t shine enough for me. Bomber shared by Daknole – thanks Dak! Pours hazy amber with a thin tan head. The nose is bourbon, vanilla, light wood and sweet malt. The taste is rye, malt, oaky vanilla and dark fruits with a nice, not overly done bourbon finish. Medium semi-creamy mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Thanks riversideak! Ruby amber, thick fizzy off white head. Strong barrel, sweet toasty caramel and charcoal. Big bourbon notes, sweet molasses middle, softens to a rich chewy caramel finish. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUN 28, 2011
(22oz bomber acquired in a trade). Pours a hazy dark ruby/mahogany colorw ith thin tan head. Some nice, active carbonation. Aroma has some whiskey, green apple, ripe fruits, and some bourbon. Damn! This is a really tasty beer! Taste is sweet from the malts and the barrels. Again, the green apple and fruits and very visible which I didn’t think would be the case. Of course, there is the mix of rye whiskey and bourbon, but I think they work well together. The beer is fairly thin-bodied but the flavors have come together in a great way. This far surpassed my expectations. BroSpud (2189) - , Massachusetts, USA - MAY 23, 2010
Sample at Julio’s Spring Beer Fest (disclaimer - memory somewhat blurred after perhaps a few too many samples) One of the better bourbon barrel ales I have tasted. ineedbeer (2154) - Oakland, California, USA - MAY 20, 2013
I believe this is a 2011 bottle.
Aroma is nice and complex with lots of sweet malt character balanced by bourbon barrel notes. Lots of dark caramel with a hint of chocolate and roast. Quite a bit of rye spice present as well along with some toasted bread. Some fruitiness is also present with prunes and raisins. Some burnt sugar is also present. Light bourbon, oak and vanilla.
Pours a burnt amber with some light brown highlights, but on the whole the beer tends towards red more than brown. Very thin light tan head that quickly recedes to the edges. Light lacing.
Flavor is very similar to aroma but with an lot more bourbon character. There is a lot of sweet fruit notes upfront with prune, raisin and fig. There is quite a bit of malt character as well with dark caramel, roast, caramelized sugar and toffee. Light burnt toast notes. Mid to late palate you get a lot of barrel character with a lot of bourbon, oak and vanilla. Light rye spice and some alcohol heat finish out the flavor. Fairly low bitterness, this definitely is on then sweet side.
Mouth feel is medium to medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Astringency is low to medium low and alcohol warmth is medium low. Its a very sweet beer but it isn’t sticky like you would expect considering the sweetness.
Overall a very nice, complex beer with good fruit and malt character. The bourbon barrels are well integrated in the aroma but a bit strong in the flavor. The beer is on the sweet side, too much so. oteyj (2139) - New Hampshire, USA - JUN 2, 2010
Straight garnet brown pour with a lively off white head, The aroma is loaded with...yes.massive dill notes. Smutty is lucky that dill is my favorite herb. Other notes include epic bourbon vanilla and caramel. The flavor is loaded with caramel, bourbon vanilla, booze, and EPIC dill notes. Mmmm. The palate is silky, smooth, thick, and finshes boozy. Wow.
