Deep copper pour with ample tan head. Aroma of citrus and pine with underlying notes of roasted grain and coffee. Really bitter hop upfront that gives way to a creamy finish. There are melding tastes of sweet and bitter; dark chocolate, biscuity grains, caramel, citrus, pine. The taste is all over the place, but comes together well. Good beer, but I still havenít warmed up too much to the black IPAs.
From notes. This is a really enjoyable black IPA. It might not be the most intense, but itís strength is in its balance. Itís a very nice IPA with some firm hop bite and a bit of pine and citrus aroma, but it has just enough roasted barley flavor to remind you that itís definitely a distinct style from traditional IPA. 60minuteman (1682) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 16, 2015

Bottle. This beer was named in memory of Greg Noonan, one of the co-creators of the first black IPA and an influential dude in the New England beer community. The beerís dead black at the thicker parts of the glass; clearer milk chocolate hues at the the thinner parts. One full inch of sticky, marshmallow-fluff tan foam sits atop. Enticing aroma. A background of smooth cocoa is accented by notes of orange peel, anise, sweet lactose and chocolate-covered pomegranate. More porter than black IPA, I think. Roast is big, with a flavor of burnt wheat bread. Orange peel, fresh grass and a touch of pine make up the hoppy side. The finish is mostly malt, and very dry. Crazy-balanced. Nice body, medium and velvet-smooth, almost creamy. Moderate carbonation prickles the tongue and breaks the brew into a few soapy bubbles. Bitterness is noticeable, but not out of line. Black pour with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and fruity hops. Taste is a nice balance of roasted malt and hops. One of the best black ipaís in my opinion. Great lacing shown on each sip.

Bottle. 1st pour went a little too fast I guess. It was 80% thick tan head. Took a bit to regress to the a dark opaque brown with a thick tan lacing clinging to the sides. Aroma of hops intermingled with roasted malts. Taste almost exactly the same as the nose but the malts taste almost burnt and lingering bitterness. Dark pour, one finger head with pretty good lacing. Milky aroma with some citrus. The flavor was caramel malts with roast...like a brown ale, almost. Mild citrus hops. Bottle. Orange, mint, pine, chocolate and some coffee in the nose. Cloudy matte black color. Flavors of pine resin, coffee, roast, some smoke. Decent, not all that sweet.
