Draft @ FoBAB 2009, Chicago, IL. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty bourbon and caramel aroma with hints of vanilla. Sweetish malty caramel and bourbon flavor. Has a sweetish malty bourbon and caramel finish with hins of vanilla in the aftertaste. Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Draft at Underground Bluz. The body is a dark, copperish-brown to mahogany color. A small, smooth head of khaki colored foam crowns the surface, trailed by wet globs of lacing that mostly rejoin the body below. The aroma sports a big, sweet, brown sugar malt base, with notes of bronzed caramel, hazelnuts, candied pecans, and big-time vanilla. The oaky-sweet bourbon massages the malts beautifully on the nose. Nary a hop is detectable, as this one is clearly a malt bomb. Flavors follow suit, very sweet, with loads of brown sugar and caramel. Oak imparts a big vanilla kiss, while the Jack brings in a sour mash, bourbony twang. Surprisingly, it’s not at all boozy, just warm. The palate is thick with sugar, proving to be a little too cloying for my taste. Overall a very solid barleywine, though I’d probably have preferred a little less time in the barrel so that the hops didn’t fade so far away. Very good in small quantities, though. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 14, 2009

2004 Vintage on tap at the Barley Pub.
Reddish brown pour. last beer of the keg.
Nose was vanilla and woody sweet malt. Some bourbon but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is overwhelmingly awesome. Creamy and smooth, the aging has done this beer good. Rich sweet flavor with some definite woodiness and great vanilla. Whiskey booziness rounds this out. Warming and delicious. yobdoog (1888) - Kingston, New York, USA - MAY 2, 2009
This was really good. Sweet and delicious. Heavy and rich and not easy to drink a lot of but it is a great sipper. Lots of complexity in this one. Some wood and alcohol present. JohnQPublic (387) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - NOV 20, 2008
Draught, ’05 vintage, @ BTAH VSK. Pours cloudy red-brown, with a nose of vanilla, oak, sweet malt - nose is bourbon-y without being quite as up front as some other whiskey aged beers. Flavor back up the nose - big and rich, very port like, with a finish that gets a nice balancing off-dryness from the whiskey and alcohol. Alcohol itself is fairly well hidden. Mouthfeel is big and syrupy. rocbyter (2131) - Waterbury, Connecticut, USA - JUN 15, 2008
