Cloudy chocolate brown beer with a good cream coloured head. Softish palate, a bit dry. Rich malt with a brandy tone. Smooth and creamy - well offset by good bittering hops that come to the fore in the creamy finish. Quite a contrast but very drinkable.
Pours a dark brown with lots of head and lacing, nose is brown sugar, dried fruit and aldehydes. First sip is caramel, vanila bean, bruins, and booze. FFinish is slight bitterness like coffee. oobawa (1650) - Tennessee, USA - MAY 16, 2011
Nice looks, red and clear and foamy. Smells slightly funky, and very, very sweet. Which goes well to describe the flavor. In fact, the only trait this beer shares with regular Old Brown Dog is the name. Really Old gets really sweet really fast, the sugary heart of the brew overwhelming any subtle pleasures. More hops could temper this Bit-O-Honey nature, but the needed bitterness never shows. The cloying finish betrays the meager 7% ABV. Worth trying, just not worth trying again. Bottle I found at the store from 2008. Pours brown with a bit of haze and some tan head. Nice malty aroma with caramel, some dark fruit, dates. Taste is malty sweetness up front with some fruit, toffee. Faint bitterness on the finish. Very nice. Jow (4028) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 6, 2011
2008 vintage tasted 3/6/11 growler fill from DeCiciocs smutty nose tasting. Pours deep brown. Tastes of toffee, vanilla, some malt, also some drak fruits. Very enjoyable on this rainy Sunday, and since I just got back from gym might just finish this growler solo style.

2008 Bomber drank in March 2011: Pours a clear light brown with almost no head, nose has brown sugar, caramel, and raisins. Medium bodied with a light mouthfeel, light carbonation, starts and ends lightly sweet with a dark fruit ending. johnnnniee (4403) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 18, 2011
2008 Vintage sampled 1/2/2009, I can’t believe it took me so long to post a review of this one.
Pours a crystal clear brown color with ruby highlights when held to light. Thin head dissipates quickly. Smells of Brown Sugar, cherries, dark dried fruits, vanilla, some oak or smoke too. Very malty nose very little if any hop presence. Taste is sweet with dark fruits, toffee, sugar, a touch of alcohol and a warming finish. Mouthfeel is creamy/syrupy, body is medium, carbonation is ample. Another great brew from an underrated brewery. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - DEC 10, 2010
Big sweet nose - lots of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla notes, dark fruit, hints of apple skins. Pours hazy orange amber, thin foam ring. The flavor is full of dark fruits and brown sugars, caramel apples. Malty, sweet, slightly aged flavors. Lingering sweet fruity notes along with slightly earthy/dirt hop notes. Interesting long sweet finish. Interesting to try. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - OCT 23, 2010
courtesy of a trader many moons ago that i cannot remember, but thanks a ton! i had no idea what this was when i got it! been saving this one for a while now. pours a nice deep auburn with an orange tinge and green, yes green edging, very nice. aroma of muscat grapes, apple juice and dusty old goodness. the taste is nice, sweet, a bit tart in the finish to balance. nice drinker, warm, thought it would be a much higher abv. great stuff, would definitely trade for this badboy again. gave it an extra tenth due to being more awesome than the sum of its parts. Courtesy of Ryan. Muddy orange/amber, minimal head. Aroma very muddied. tons of fruti esters, not sure all of them belong, faint caramel backend. Flavor on par, fruit lighter, caramel tad stronger. Little let down.
