Sampled @ Extreme Beer Fest, 4 Feb, 17. Almost no carbonation on a pitch black stout. Aroma a subtle amount of red grapes, mild oak but mostly grapes.

Very mild roasted backbone. The flavor is dominated by red grapes. The alcohol is totally hidden, not noticed at all. This stout is one of the best red wine barrel treatments I can remember sampling. I now regret passing on bottles of this when I saw it months ago around the NH sea coast.

Pours with a two-finger, khaki head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Midnight black color, no highlights. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is oak and wine, flavor follows red wine hints, sweet malt, oak. High ABV is hidden. Pricey at $13.99 for a 500ml bottle, from Chase Street Market Plymouth, NH.

Bottle. Very very nice beer. Smooth and deep, chocolate, a little coffee, but with a sharp red wine finish. The red wine/oak character really does add a lot to this beer, I was expecting it to be maybe a bit of a gimmick but it definitely was not. Really nice.

Pretty decent, and well hidden oak. Caramel and roast with some chocolate and caramel. Black pour with good head and lacing. Creamy consistency. Bittersweet finish. Tap at Black Squirrel.

Note: 8/10

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Black with bubbly light tan head. Aromas of red wine, dark chocolate, oak, light grapes and berries. Tastes of dark chocolate, red wine, grapes and berries, oak. Medium body with a dry finish. Nice integration of the red wine barrel, not over the top like some red wine barrel aged stouts can be.

Draft at Churchkey. Opaque black color, brown head. Aroma of licorice and burnt brownies. Taste earthy cocoa and fruity coffee grounds. Tasty.
