Bottle. Poured a medium brown with a large light brown rocky head that was mostly diminishig and had excellent lacing. The aroma was of toasted bread malts, a horse blanket yeast and a mild resin hop with notes of dried fruit and bananas. It tasted sweet and mild with notes of dried fruit and was qiute malty from start to finish. Mouthfeel was medium in body and watery in texture with lively carbonation. Overall a very nice drinkable brew.

12oz. bottle served in standard pint glass. {from 2010 notes} Small amount of sediment in bottle; as much as possible was added to glass before consumption. Beer pours a hazy reddish brown with an attractive if short-lived light brown head. This is more like your standard Belgian dubbel than like a typical American winter ale. In contrast to the typical (if there is such a thing) American winter ale, this brew has a more fruity aroma and is less spicy in both aroma and taste. The beer is rather low in alcohol and, perhaps, a bit hoppier and less bold than an average Belgian dubbel. In any case, the bottom line is a fine, and distinctive beer, with good balance and drinkability. Slightly watery mouthfeel.

12-ounce bottle pours slightly cloudy dark amber-forange. Aroma: raisins, prunes, chocolate. Flavor: molasses cookies, Fig Newtons, my grandmothers date squares. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, slick butterscotch consistency and flavor as it warms.

They should have stuck with the Winter Ale designation, as this brew falls far short of most Belgian dubbels. Bottle into willibecher, pours pretty flat and has very low carbonation. It is mahogany colored. Aroma of sweet dark fruits and malt. Sweet malty flavor, more like a scotch ale. Smudgy white print directly on the glass bottle indicates that this is at 6.6% ABV. Not terrible, just sweet and flat and entirely lacking in complexity. Boring but drinkable.

From a local bodega: pours mahagony with off white head. Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, general yeastiness. Taste is somewhat sweet. Pretty restrained. Easy drinking. Not bad.

Bottle at home during a snow storm. This is a nice, malty, straightforward dubbel -- theres a lot of sweet raisin bread flavor, mixed with a faint but pleasant Belgian yeast aroma. More hop bitterness at the end than I expect for the style, but it works pretty well. Good stuff, especially considering how widely available it is.

Pour is a murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma is brown sugar sweetness with some plum. Flavor is brown sugar some dark fruit with some esters from the yeast but there is a nice richness. Not a overly flavorful dubbel but it is going in the right direction. A bit too sweet but the rich dark fruit shines here.

Deep roasted malt aroma - slightly sweet and mellow. Flavor is very nice - slightly creamy. Very true to style. Pours a deep reddish brown that is perfectly clear. Small tan head that lingers.
