Pours a deep brown/black color with a sticky, light tan head that provides great lacing. Aroma has a strong bourbon nose but not overpowering, light fruity notes - apples, light raisin with some mild esters late. Grainy presence starts to show itself in the middle with some light toasted presence and finishes with a mild dark roasted kick. Flavor starts off pretty fruity with a lot of banana working with the bitter roasted malt and bourbon, creating a very unique flavor. This subsides to a mildly roasted malt presence, light apple and caramel malt sweetness with a finish of chocolate malt and a mild toasted malt kick. Body is modest/hefty with low carbonation and an overall smooth feeling. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall a very good brew. The bourbon is well balanced with the stronger roasted/toasted malt notes and the light Belgian estery sweetness. For the price a very nice brew. Pours unclear dark mahogany with a decent beige head. Aroma brings some light wood and actually smoke peat notes, which I get on the flavor too! The body is not big at all, a bit creamy and nice though. The flavor of roasted malts is lighter, more of the smokey wood is what I get. Bottle @ home. Pours opaque black with a small, frothy, tight bubbled tan head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is roast, dark chocolate, nutty, and earthy coffee malt, figs and prunes, and earthy hops with oak and bourbon notes. Flavor is malt dominant, light hops and bitterness, dark fruity esters, spices and earthiness with a bittersweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. Smutty seems to get lost in the shuffle these days, which is a shame given how satisfying and modestly innovative their beers can be. Dark, hefty pour certainly looks stout-ish enough, and a potent one at that. Nose is initially rich oaky tannins and chocolate malts, but the yeast becomes quickly evident (and welcome). Not quite as tart as some Belgian stouts can be, just a pleasant fruitiness that both enhances the extant flavors are marks a change from them.

22 oz bottle shared by Matt. Thanks, dude. Pours a richer deeper blackish brown hue, well hazed and deeper body. Touch of ruby brown glow on the edges. Frothy tannish head atop dies to a filmy ring, laces small. Aromas are banana, caramel, toasty malts and some chocolate. Some gentle roastiness, mellow Belgian yeast, banana and cocoa, carmelization. Tons of Laffy Taffy banana kinda dominates. Initial is a bit more reigned in, cocoa and gentle carmelization. Some firm banana, gentle biscuit and mellow sweetness. Carmleized, a bit toasty. Some estery presence, middle is a bit sweet, toasty and roasty, mellow carmelization, some vanilla, sweetness. A bit toasty, roasty, cocoa. A bit more redeemed, the nose is just huge Laffy Taffy. Bottle. Heavy toasted grain for the malt, moderate herbs and dried grass for the hops, earth for the yeast, with aromas of wood and charcoal in the background. Head is small, frothy, light brown with fair and thin lacing with good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, the the long finish is moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a lively carbonation and a sticky and chewy finish. Bottle obtained in a trade, poured into a tulip. Deep brown with a tan head. Nose is fruity banana and chocolate, roast. Flavor is roast, with the odd mix of sweet fruitiness. Interesting.

4/8/13. 22oz bottle. Deep brown black pour with a small khaki head that fades and barely laces. Banana and fruity esters all over this bad boy with roasted malts, chocolate, fudge, and marshmallow (BA) - smells like a fucken banana split. Sweet flavor with loads of banana, too much perhaps, and more chocolate, fudge, vanilla, etc. Banana fucken split. But too much banana. Strong sweet fruit malt. Brown color with a small white head. Sweet creamy beginning with a bitter middle getting sweet again in the finish.
